Alicorns and other Immortals in my AU. · 10:25am Jun 5th, 2015
LORE DUMP!
In my AU, Alicorns are a type of Demi-Deity. What's a Demi-Deity? A type of minor god found in 3.0 D&D which is almost small potatoes in the divine ranks. How minor? Well a mortal who worked hard could become one if they got a little lucky. What can they do? Ratehr than post the template in RAW, have a summery:
150% more powerful physically than the most powerful mortal of their birth species.
Three times as fast as they were as a mortal.
A touch more durable, as if always in full armor which didn't hinder movement or comfort.
Sight, touch, smell, sound, taste ect, are 10 times as keen as a mortals.
Do not age, or require sleep, or food (can eat, drink, and sleep if they want to.)
Unaffected by natural effects such as: ability damage, disease, natural elements (cold, drowning, fire, lava, lightning etc.), poison and so forth. They can still be affected by magical cold, magical disease, magical fire etc.
Are as skilled as you can possibly be in every skill they knew as a mortal. (But has to practice new things like anyone else.)
have up to 6 powers beyond the might of a single mortal. (Mortals working together could probably replicate them via ritual magic)
What are they not? Invulnerable. You, bob the mortal with a pointy stick, can kill them (and despite what the books say it's generally easy if you have a plan and stick too it.) To quote the Immortals Handbook:
Demi-deities are versatile and deadly opponents. Only the most powerful and resourceful mortals could even begin to seriously threaten the existence of such a being. Even then it would take a concerted effort; involving the virtually impossible task of catching a deity unawares and a modicum of good fortune to overcome such a tough opponent. Perhaps the mortals could initially count on the demigods arrogance. But more likely a god, any god, who feels imperiled will remove themselves from the situation by the most expedient means. Before planning their vengeance upon those who dared to cross them.
An example of one of those minor godly powers would be... controlling day and night. Huh, conforms to canon, what do you know! Another would be:
You are unaffected by temporal effects (such as slow or temporal stasis), you cannot be undermined by time travel (someone cannot go backto your past and simply kill you as an infant for instance). If you are within the area of a time stop spell then you gain access to the additional rounds.
Things like prefect control over one elemental energy type, that sort of minor thing.
So Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight have those traits, and for my AU are Demi-Deities. Bottom rank gods, but goes none the less (At least in D&D terms).
The Main six (but not Twilight) hold the rank of Hero-deity. Which isn't really a god, they are "While they may be regarded as movers and shakers within the mortal realm, they are little more than the footsoldiers and dogsbodies of the gods." in terms of power. Why are they like this? Because of what the Elements of Harmony and the Tree of Harmony are in my AU. For as long as they hold the Rainbow Powers (which could be removed) they have the following abilities:
Twice as physically powerful as they were pre-power up.
a 50% speed boost.
Slightly harder to hurt than a normal person. Might resist a knife cut.
Sight, touch, smell, sound, taste ect, are twice as good.
Do not age, but must sleep, drink, and eat.
Unaffected by disease, natural elements, and poison. They can still be affected by magical cold, magical disease, magical fire etc.
Are just a hair more skilled than without the poser boost in things they know.
I hope that clears up a few things.
cewl!
