I'm tagging Absolution because if you enjoyed Absolution then you are going to love Verdant Song. I've been reading it the last few days and I LOVE it. This is the kind of thing I've been looking for, y'all. I wish we had more of this.
Verdant Song is the story of a joint Griffon-Pony colony ship launched to colonize a distant planet named Verdence. Back home, the two nations are in the middle of a long cold war. But the Verdant Song was going to help change that. Ponies and Griffons working side by side to take the first bold leap for life on Equus out into the cosmos...
No one, not even the skeptics saw what was coming. An asteroid on the edge of the Verdence system forced the ship to deploy its weaponry brought along for mining purposes. While the space junk was destroyed, the debris cloud tore the Verdant Song apart. Crew and supplies were lost... and that is when the real trouble began.
This thing reads like Lord of the Flies meets Heart of Darkness in Space and it is amazing. Please, please read.
