Something new is coming (and other musings about future projects) · 11:28am May 22nd, 2015

Short Version: Look for my newest novel, The Last Pony On Earth, coming to Fimfiction this Saturday! It will update daily. That is not a typo.

Long Version:

I know I just finished something, and I usually take a longer break between posting new stories. The smart thing to do would've been to write very little or not at all this summer so I can focus on those things that "really matter" (to who?). I tried that, and I found that I was less motivated to get things done without writing ponies to look forward to. I guess making pony words has been a part of my routine for so long that I don't know how to function properly without it.

Only, I do think it would be good to avoid taking on a huge responsibility (such as MLP: 3) when I have so many real-world commitments, not to mention the generally lackluster numbers I saw on apogee. Don't take this as me saying I've abandoned the project, because no way am I going to leave My Little Apprentice unfinished. It's just that... I'd like to take a break.

I had another huge project I don't think I'm mentioned on here, for my second large-scale universe-creating story here on Fimfiction... and I don't want to start on that either. No details in case the effort to write it never materializes, just that it was the next direction I wanted to go when I finished all the My Little Apprentice stories. (I foresee at least three more of those: My Little Apprentice: 3, A short story sequel to Pax Humana, and a novel length conclusion to the My Little Apprentice series set in the (somewhat distant) future. This in addition to a possible revision of Harmony Defended in the same vein as what I did with My Little Apprentice)

So I didn't want to be tied into the MLA universe. I didn't want the burden of the huge amount of world building and planning for the next novel series (new universe BTW, nothing MLA related.) Where did this leave me?

Well, I wanted to write a novel. I wanted something fun, which for me usually means either transformation or humans are involved somehow. This desire sparked the inspiration for this latest story.

The Last Pony on Earth will be a journal-format story told in the first person. Because of this formatting choice, I'm free to write shorter, more frequent updates. I plan on updating the story as the character writes journal entries, which will start out as daily and may decrease slightly (with proportional increases in entry length) as the story progresses. Depending on the critical reception, I may go on to write further stories in this universe in a prose format, or just cap things with this one. I guess we'll see what happens.

As usual, the fantastic Zutcha did the cover for me. And yes, I have heard about the stupid cover formatting mandate (neither me or the Artist were happy about that, let me tell you). We made a scaled version... I just think the non-awfully formatted one looks much better.

Will it be worth reading? Guess we'll find out!

This will prove to be most fun, indeed! :pinkiehappy: Good luck on the project!

Now, if only I could finish Book 2…

Thanks! And if you mean Harmony Defended, I would totally understand that. Honestly I would just go back and read Apogee instead (it takes place before anyways), and wait to read HD until I got around to revising it.

Now, if you already meant Apogee, well... that's another story.

3087753 Alright, thanks for the tip!

Whoa! An update a day? Either you're already done and know the schedule, or you're really committed to this.

Either way, I'm happy for you!

I'm really looking forward to reading this story!
