    Not My Little Diamond Cancelled

It's been quite awhile since I last posted a blog on this site. Chapter 20

It's been a couple of weeks since I've finished my most recent chapter. Given my recent artistic endeavors, it's taken awhile for me to collect my thoughts on the subject. Now that I have, I think it's time to share them.

    Chapter 19

Though I didn't originally plan it that way, I find it fitting that Chapter 19 be the 2nd longest chapter I've written to date, and I'm overjoyed that it didn't take me three months to write it. If I can finish Chapter 20 by around this time next month, I think I can safely say that I'm back on the right track with my writing.

Not My Little Diamond Cancelled · 2:18am May 11th, 2015

It's been quite awhile since I last posted a blog on this site. Ever since my hiatus, I've felt there's been less of a reason for it, but now that I've reached this point, I find it's only fair that I make this final announcement. Not My Little Diamond is one of the single largest projects I've ever worked on, a story that I spent hundreds of hours over the course of nearly two years, going so far as to rewrite the entire first half of it from scratch when I wasn't happy with it. It was also a huge experiment for me, allowing me to learn a great deal about the do's and don'ts of writing and come to better understand how to write fiction.

However, I find it's because this story is such a big deal to me that I can no longer continue it. I would only want to finish this story if I could do it well, and the amount of time this story requires to do it justice basically mandates that it be my only hobby. And as much passion as I have for my story, I simply can't say I have that same passion for writing.

I don't regret this decision, nor do I regret all the time I spent writing the story up to this point. It's been an amazing experiment and experience that has taught me so much about writing and given me so much perspective on the subject. Even if the story isn't finished, it's completed its job in my eyes, and though many loose threads will remain untied, I find an odd satisfaction with the open ending it leaves behind.

To those of you who follow my story, I apologize that I couldn't give you the satisfying conclusion you wanted. The story was meant to be another twenty chapters long, but after this long of a hiatus, even writing one more chapter feels like it would only cheapen the overall experience. So I'm going to let the story stand as it is and be enjoyed for what it is. To those of you who managed to enjoy it, I thank you.

Ever since I started writing it, I've treasured this story as one of my greatest creative accomplishments. Looking back, there's no doubt that it's one of the most fruitful projects I've ever worked on. And more than anything, that's what I want to remember. I want to remember how this story was actually my little diamond after all.

Make the most!

Ah, well. That's too bad - I'm one of those readers who usually won't start an unfinished fic, but this one's been sitting on my 'keep an eye on this one' list for quite some time now. I absolutely love the little summary blurb, and I've even considered starting it on occasion, despite the incomplete nature of it. So, my question to you, author -- How incomplete is it? I don't mind hanging plot threads, but if it clearly isn't any hint of wrap up, I don't know that I will bother.

as much passion as I have for my story, I simply can't say I have that same passion for writing.

I can completely relate to this. I have about a half-dozen fics running around in my head that are begging to be let out, and I have written probably 100k unpublished words just trying to put them to page. But ultimately, I like the story creating process far more than I do the writing process.

Dang. Even if I already knew, reading the whole "Cancelled" bit still stung. I've missed reading Mort and things were just starting to kick off finally with DT and the gang. Perhaps one day you might consider sharing some of those mysteries and how some characters end up? It sounds selfish, but there was so much going for the story and all that time invested as a reader to read even some things twice over after an edit occurs, it'd be nice to have some sort of closure for this story. If only a small glimpse.

Heh. Well, it's good to finally see something official posted for the fic at least. It's a real shame you never wrote more short stories like you did for your prompts.

I have no qualms with sharing where I was going with the story and what my ideas were. If anyone is interested, I'll be happy to tell them.

I honestly believe that what I've written does form a complete narrative in itself, albeit with an open ending and several questions unanswered. Chapter 20 was designed to end all events currently taking place, and Chapter 21 was meant to serve as the beginning of 'Book 2', beginning again with its own momentum to answer what's been left out over the course of the story's second half. The story has three overarching goals/themes that all the characters revolve around. None of them end up fully resolved, but all of them reach their climax to form something of a bittersweet ending. You can decide for yourself if that sounds worth the read.

3061720 There was never a moment in me that ever doubted whether your story was worth reading. Because once you pick it up, you just can't stop. I've no regrets having read the story. Even if I knew from the start that it would not continue, I'd likely have continued reading it with how well the hooks were placed throughout the story.

Shame though, I wanted to get to know crab-tailed mare a bit more. xD

If you do make that list be sure to toss up another blog sometime. Bittersweet open-ended endings are most welcomed.

My mistake. I replied to you with the other reply and vice versa.

I don't think I'd want to post twenty chapters worth of plot points onto a single blog. I'd rather just answer any questions people have as they come. That would probably be the best use of my time.

That sounds sufficient enough to be worth my time. I'll probably start reading it at some point this week (I spend almost 40 hours a week watching my toddler son while my wife works -- reading is a nice interruptible activity).
