This story I started just because I got tired of every story follows the same pattern and every character is the same. Same personalities. Same background. Same future. I want something different and the twists and turns they go through may end the same in some ways, but may not be. I'm writing it as I go and inspiration comes in different ways.

I too am writing a story where things are different. Celestia has three students, the Mane 5 (not counting Twilight) have their cutie marks from MMC at the beginning of the show, the Elements of Harmony don't work with the same ponies like we see in the show. Awesome stuff like that. I like twists and turns, especially ones that make sense at the end of the story.
