Feeling a Little Lonely . . . · 1:35am Apr 28th, 2015
Discord's racing heart steadied as his hooves grew heavy from the exertion. His intense focus to get away from it all had led him to an expansive field, glistening in the moonlight. Once again he was on his own, as he had been for centuries and would likely be till the end of time. Turning to the heavens, he noted the veritable ocean of stars arranged in their celestial dance. Holes from whence the gods watched the world, that's what his father had called them. Discord didn't really believe him, but he was willing to give it a try.
"If you are there, would you listen?" He took a long, slow breath, "I have lied to my dearest friend, toyed with her emotions and may have severed her trust in me forever." His legs quivered as yet another surge of pain rippled through his false form. "This is not a transformation, I cannot be a pony, not in truth. I had hoped she would accept that, see me for who I am. But no . . . it seems a draconequus is not worthy to be her friend or," he gulped, "mate."
For a moment he stood in silence, allowing the breeze to cool his aching joints. "Is this punishment for my crimes. Do you forsake me as my father? I have been nothing but faithful! I have tried to mend what I broke, to enter their world." He stamped a hoof, wincing as the impact. "They refuse to accept a draconequus into any society. I am but a beast to them, to her," he added softly.
"What am I to do? There is no place for me anymore! I should rather die than live centuries alone." Alone and forgotten. " I want to live among them, be accepted as I was. I want to stay by her side, remain loyal to her beyond the grave. But I cannot as I am now. Please, I beg of you, take this false form and make it true! I don't mind the pain, I would learn to live with it for her."
The tears began to sting his eyes as he stammered, "If-if I were a pony, the-then they would forgive me. If I were a pony, they would not be afraid or cringe from disgust." He chuckled hollowly, "Tia would accept me as a brother and value my opinion." His next words would sound like blasphemy, but he did not care. "If-if I were a pony, I would . . . I would be able to have a family of my own and," he gulped, "and she would love me, love me as surely as I love her."
"Please . . . please. I can't be alone again, not after I've held her in my arms. Is that so wrong?" There was no answer, there never would be, not anymore. Gritting his teeth, he limped back towards the cliffs. Twilight was right, he would never belong with them. A beast was a beast no matter what mask he wore. He allowed himself to resume his original form, gasping from the sudden onslaught of agony. But he would bear it as he always had, bear it until he like his entire race faded away . . .
A scene that didn't make it into the story, but one I continue to have a soft spot for . . .
a version of Five Score, Divided by Four?
3023878 Never heard of it.
Aww! So heartbreaking! Though I am curious, which chapter would this have been apart of had it made it into the story?
BluegrassBrooke confirmed as one of my senpai authors here on FIMfiction. Seriously...you are amazing.
3023883 It would have been in Sign of Rain before he confronts Celestia.
3023889 Oh goodness, thanks. ^.^ I'm super flattered.
Wow. That is intense. I was a pleasure to work with you on This Cruel and Random World. Great job and I love this scene.
3024386 Amen to that, amen to that. "Man looks at outward appearance, but God looks at the heart." I think that's how the verse went anyway . . .
