I am at a loss for words. Not that it's going to stop me from writing something on a blog or continue to mull over the next chapter of Scion that I still need to finish...
Tonight, I am at a loss to express my gratitude to all of you. Thank you for all the wonderful feedback and the amazing experience it has been to share The Old Gray Mare with you.
To stick a humongous cherry on the top of all of this, Goombasa put together a dramatic reading! My first one ever! (I'm so happy right now!) I never asked for this, but I am incredibly grateful to receive such an amazing gift. Huge props to him for going out of his way to take the time to put this together.
I wrote this story at a time when nothing was going right for me. I was sick, depressed, overworked, and plainly in the wrong mood to be writing (pretty much the same state I am in --right now--) when I shot out the draft that made its way into the Writeoff. In great part due to the awesome community of writers that participate in that group, I found my voice. The revision became my best received story, by far. I'm very happy with how the story turned out, and even if I could make little tweaks here or there, I'm good with how it stands.
I've joked that my personal goal list before all of this came about looked a lot like this:
Get a like
Get a fav
Get another like and fav
In other words, my expectations were pretty low. I don't want to sound like some egomaniac that thinks he's made it to the big leagues because of one story, but I really do think I'm getting better at this. It's thanks to all of you that I can improve and continue to share even more --hopefully-- amazing stories.
Thank you all for supporting me and helping me get better at this writing stuff. I truly appreciate it.

Congrats! I do love this story!
Aye, thanks for writing.
The pleasure was mine. Great job, and I look forward to your future work.
