We really need to come up with a better name for these.
Indeed. Add that to the ever growing list of things to do. And while she's doing that, let's jump right into it! Third episodes usually set up the theme for the season, so let's see what number 5 is going to promise us.
A typical evening for Fluttershy.
How'd they get that dirty in the first place? What, did they find a mud pit and go 'I got an idea, let's make Fluttershy's life even more difficult and get ourselves dirty so she bathes us!'
They're animals, what'd you expect? Besides, I'm pretty sure Fluttershy enjoys it.
"You'll be the first in my dark harvest."
No sympathy for the bunny. But Twilight is clearly stalling for something.
Gasp! Could it be she doesn't like her new castle?

At first, I thought the video was fuzzing up or something, then I realized that, nope, the graphics are just that good.

Ah, pancakes with friends. I've had many good mornings eating pancakes with mis amigos, either homemade or at Ihop. I love Ihop. Best pancakes ever. And, I think you'd notice right away where the measuring spoon was when you poured the pancake batter. They aren't exactly thick.
Anyway, I was getting some pretty hard deja vu vibes from this entire scene. Still not 100% sure why.
She's cute when she's filthy.
You know, if I was still a terrible person, I could totally use this as blackmail material. All too easy.

You see, pancakes can be used for more than just eating. They are fashion accessories, seat cushions, pillows, and in case of emergencies, can be used as flotation devices.

For once, Pinkie caught herself in her accidental explanations of why things are as bad as they seem. Ten more points to Hufflepuff. Keep up the good work, Pinkie.
She'll find a way to mess it up, just wait.
In the meantime, we don't waste half the episode waiting for Twilight to tell her friends what's wrong, or them trying to guess. Nope, we're jumping straight to the conflict... sort of. Twilight admits she doesn't like her new home, but never quite says why.
It's not a library for one thing. We all know how much she likes sleeping in libraries.
Nice job trying to be subtle, Rarity.
She's learning! Remember in season 1 where'd she just flat out say you didn't look good? Applejack remembers.

And here's the heart of the episode! The Golden Oaks Library in ruins. Quick note, this is actually the first time they've said the official name in the show. Golden Oaks was never officially canon until now.
Anyway, here's where I thought the episode would mostly revolve around, not so much Twilight disliking her castle, but missing her old library. If you recall from the season 4 finale, I didn't shed too many tears over it getting blown up. But, during the hiatus, I came to realize that I loved the library and will dearly miss it as well. So I kinda wish the writers had focused a little more on that aspect. Just some closure.
I hope these two get a lot of moments this season.
Off to a good start.

Spike seems unhappy. Guess that massage really didn't help him relax. Though, what I don't understand is: why did he have to give Twilight the runaround? I mean, he could have just said, 'Hey, they're taking a little longer to fix the place up because they really care about you and want to do it right. Wanna go sit at the park?'
That'd be taking the easy way out. Celestia knows we can never do that.

So, to make the place like home, they shoved the old home into it! Genius! I wish I could do that with my old houses! Such nostalgia!
Being serious, it's a really thoughtful gesture. A crystal for each memory they've made together. Question is how? Twilight's the super magicky one, and she was gone all day. How'd they get the crystals to do da magics?
Rarity has more magic power than she's letting on.

So this season's theme is, making memories! A new crystal every episode? I'm game!

Yeah, but on the bright side, these are a lot harder to destroy... I think. Well, Twilight just needs to make sure no one blows up the castle.
So overall, the episode was all right. Song was kinda a miss for me, but everything else was upwards from decent. Wish they had touched on the actually tree more. I'm feeling a 7.5. Liked it, will watch it again, but all i really took from it was pancakes and crystal chandeliers.
And surprise confetti cannons.
Well, Twilight was incredibly cute in this episode so... Yeah, this was a nice episode...
I love the idea of adding more crystals after each episode. I really hope they do that.
I so, so, so hope that the surprise confetti canons are a running joke. Not overused, but just every once in a while.
