So this happened.
"Towards Some Greater Dawn" is a story I have a weird relationship with on a lot of levels. Personally, I was in a dark place that New Year's eve as I wrote it, late into the night. I wanted a drink. I didn't get one, if you're curious, as I was at--of all places to have an existential crisis--Disneyworld. Whichever one is in like Florida. Point is I was there and there was much celebrating outside and I was not happy. My relationship was a month or so dead, I hadn't seen my friends much at all with all the holidays, and to top it off, my feet hurt. If I had been smoking then I would have wanted a cigarette more than life itself. I would have killed for one.
Also, I had never been a huge fan of Celestia being replaced by Twilight. I'm still not a huge fan of it, but I am more okay with it. What really bothered me, I discovered, was the stories themselves, not the concept. So I wrote one just like them, you say under your breath.
So a weird mood, a weird concept, and I tacked on a bunch of present tense and made Applejack have a pipe and also Raridash and I drank lots of coffee.
And this reading happened much later.
