I Came Back To Post One Little Thing, Then I'll Leave Again

I had mentioned before that a book called The Last Centurion had largely read like an opposite day prophecy about 2020. I thought I'd mention a little factoid about the book, due to recent events. Scroll down for a spoiler.

I Deleted My Last Blog Post... Again

Not over racism this time, but because what should have been a forum for civil discussion about the debate had quickly become extremely uncivil. I stopped it before I had to ban anyone, but I've learned my lesson. I'm going to stop trying to discuss politics on my blog, because it is clear to me now that not even Bronies are capable of civil, rational discussion of politics in 2020, and that

I Want To Get This Off My Chest

I keep seeing people posting stuff about how "The virus isn't going away, viruses never go away, you guys just need to deal with it".

Here's some straight truth for you guys.

And here's a link where I cite my sources about SARS.

I Deleted My Most Recent Blog Post

Seeing what the discussion in the comments was turning into, I opted to simply delete it over deleting some of the posts I saw on it. While political discussion is one thing, racism is not something I'll stand for. Have a good Labor Day Weekend, everyone.

I've Got A Book I Want To Discuss With You Guys

Alright. The book in question is called The Last Centurion, By John Ringo. He's actually a sci-fi author whose novels I've read and enjoyed. The Last Centurion isn't so much a sci-fi novel as it is a Twenty Minutes Into The Future Near-Apocalypse Military Campaign tale. The story takes place in a supposed near future where a combination of a mini-ice age and a global pandemic strikes the

Chapter Six: I Am Going Places

My downward spiral of bad decisions began the same way that many such spirals begin... with a trip to Las Vegas. I was on a road trip for spring break with a few guys I know from campus. Normally, spring break was when I would launch myself into an RPG, and spend the entire time making that game my b****. I take a sort of perverse joy out of finding the perfect exploits in a game, to make my character or party unstoppable. Skyrim was like mother****ing Christmas for me, as was Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Of course, what really makes me happy is finding a game that I can't 'break', and instead have to conquer through my own skills...
But I digress. This time, I had a sort of... thought experiment that I wanted to perform, one that I had already given a quick test while playing Poker Night and Poker Night 2 over the last few weeks, with surprisingly impressive results. Now, however, I felt that I was ready to test things out in the big leagues. And that, right there, was my first big mistake.

Any game where you pay money to play is a game where you're going to lose more than you win (unless you run the casino).

2893352 Except poker, where the house will take its 5% rake from every pot, and, if you're the best player at the table, you'll walk away richer. You're up against other gamblers, not the house.

And lo behold...

His mistakes do not destroy the world.

Which isn't so bad.

Dunno bout vegas but here in Perth the Australian Poker League runs a mix of free monopoly money poker games and buy in real money games that don't rip you off as much as the casino does. That's the best way to do it here, Casinos are rigged :p although I have played baccarat, poker & roullette. Roughly broken even from my wins and losses. I usually go once a year with a small amount.
