Wow...incredible... · 7:12pm Mar 6th, 2015
"Derpy Meets The Doctor" has been out almost a day...and the response has been overwhelmingly positive!!
I had been sticking to the short story; 6,000 or slightly more words, fast reads, stuff readers could fit in amongst their busy days. This was a story for those who could manage a 90,000 word count story on a day or more off, cabin fever, long trips, those sort of things.
Boy, was I SO wrong...!
I'm glad to give you something you really like.

Question. Why do you put

You know the craze about OC's, correct?
I'm part of a Facebook group, Semper Filly. Military Bronies and Pegasisters. One of our members, Jake The Army Guy was on Nightline when they went to BronyCon and found out about adults that like candy colored equines.
Shortly after I became a member there, I had this stupid crazy idea...get a bunch of OC's together, and do a group art picture of us. Not one of those class pictures where all the ponies would look all stiff waiting for the camera to go off. Something dynamic.
From that idea, Relaxing on a Saturday Night, (http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/409662/relaxing-on-a-saturday-night) was born...
Only one problem...I didn't have an OC. Seriously. I came up with the idea, but fell short on execution.
I have a Fallout:Equestria story I'm writing, with a Crystal Pony protagonist. The pic of the guy you see when I comment and stuff. Crystal Ponies get pretty much ignored except for the occasional cameos, or something like "The Equestrian Games". If you think "Derpy Meets The Doctor" is a good read, that monster is over 230,000 words and still not finished. So, I took him as my OC. Spent HOURS on MS Paint with a generic puppet rig based on Doctor Whooves, threw Braeburn's mane and tail on him, then crystallized him up. If anything, I can look at the dude when I write for him, to keep me focused. And he's in the big pic we had made by dori-to. Pounding a Griffon near the bar, at the base of the left-hand pillar. Me.
He's kinda an alter-ego of myself now.
And his name is Crystalheart.

That's the dark alternative universe written by Kkat, based on the "Fallout" series of games. And dark it is...

Most do...but as a writer, you sometimes enjoy the challenges.
I had a hard time finding the handle on Applejack. Honesty is, well, honesty. Unlike Rarity, who has more facets than the gems on her Cutie Mark, AJ can be bland, and needs others around to point up her Element.
To figure her out, I wrote "The Mare With No Name", an almost scene by scene take of the first few minutes of "A Few Dollars More", with Applejack becoming a blend of Col. Mortimer, and Manco.
It turned out to be wildly popular; not quite like "Derpy Meets The Doctor", but not too bad at all. And one day in the future, I'm sure I'll re-visit her, and take her further down that road...

2856677 Applejack? Bland? You must be joking, i mean she is such an interesting character. Remember the time she....umm oh one time she did that thing... errr oh oh oh and that time she said the thing to... the...... guy..... Umm ok you got me, which one is applejack? Is she the one with carrot cutiemark?

Yeah, I hear you about Applejack.
But put her in a black duster and clothing rig, give her a long barreled Colt .45 with three apples on the grip, (and no, you don't want to know why...yet), and make her a bounty killer bent on nemesis level revenge, and suddenly, she gets very interesting...
As Crystalheart mused in "Relaxing on a Saturday Night", "Not everything in Equestria was Magic and Friendship..."
