So, this story Idea I've had is almost a reality, as well as some update information. · 1:39am Feb 25th, 2015
So, I've been working on a fourth story while working on all of my others, and I've almost completed the first chapter.
If any of you are familiar with The Chess Game of the Gods group, I started writing this story as my little entry into that collab. I had read a few of their stories (not Echo the Diamond Dog, rather I have read some of the outlier stories), and while the few that I had read weren't very good, the general premise was something that sparked my imagination.
However, I have a problem. I emailed the creator and moderator of that group about a year ago, but he never got back to me. This has lead me to believe that that group (and its accompanying stories) are dead.
That being said, this story will have absolutely no bearing on that group or its continuity. I will be making all new characters, with an all new story and all new antagonists. I will, however, be using the basic premise of the Gods playing chess with the lives of humans (and other creatures) while using the world of Equis as their chessboard.
If you think this a completely terrible idea, please tell me. On the other hand, if you feel like this is something worthwhile, go ahead and tell me that too!
Anyway, next chapter for What I've Done is on its way, and I've also been working on Fool's Gambit as well. Nautilus Protocol is still on the backburner, but I haven't abandoned it, so don't worry about that.
I say go ahead with the idea I've been waiting for another story like the chess game of the gods story and will be waiting eagerly for your new story.

2828670 I've looked it up, and it seems that in order for a Chess Game of the Gods story to go through, you need the permission of either Weeman or Standardissue. Niether of which ever responded to my email. I figured either the group was dead, or they were not interested. Either way, this is going to be my personal take on the chessverse premise.
2828670 I decided to give them one last try before I went ahead and posted it. If I don't hear back in a couple of days, then they're out of luck.
I tried some of those stories. Echo was fun. The sequel... yeah I don't read (interspecies!) clop kkthxbai. One or two others went the same way. And then a number of them were just flat-out weird.
I think my main problem was that they really didn't live up to the "Chess Game" part, nor yet the "of the Gods" part, given that the premise was basically used as just a framing device to get the human into Equestria, and then ignored from there on.
But hey, if you can make the idea work, it's worth a shot. Tying it to the group… meh who cares.
If you mean making your own universe that uses this basic idea, it's an okay idea. Don't always expect it to work, though. I made a Fallout fic for example that was supposed to be my own universe, people ignored it mostly. I guess it's always the luck of the draw on Fimfiction...
Also, I'm not sure if their group is dead or not... it may well be. That's sad
I'm pretty sure the permissions and everything was for getting your story considered canon, not just approved in general. Besides, Falling Feathers is pretty much the only story that ever updates, I'd say ignore them and make it your own.
So, a story about a human getting sent to Equestria and transformed into one of the native species? I'm pretty much always game for that. Will the human be a brony, or live in a world where mlp and the fandom are a thing?
Also, I'm glad to hear that it won't be taking place in the already established Chess Game universe, as I'm not a fan.
2829184 Nah, not as one of the natives. The Goddess that sends him there sends him as something else. I won't reveal anything else, since it is a major spoiler for his powers and abilities.
He isn't a brony, and has no prior knowledge to anything MLP. Which is exactly what this particular Goddess wants. Again, that's a little spoilery, so I won't say anything else.

Wow, what a fascinating concept! I think it would be great to see you come with your own twist. Where would Princess Celestia and Princess Luna stand in this world? Would they play as masterminds themselves, or simply higher and less dispensable chess pieces?

. there are so many wonderful games for the gods to play. 
especially The Lady, because she CHEATS utilizes the optimal methods to produce the most desirable outcome
