My Little Pony - The Age of Dinosaurs Spin-Off regulations · 9:22am Feb 6th, 2015
I was asked quite a few interesting suggestions for my pony/dinosaur story, it made me think this:
Why not give full permission to everyone to write a Spin-off of (My Little Pony - The Age of Dinosaurs), and see what they think about it…
I figured, why not? So, those of you who read my first ever fanfic on this site, you have permission to write a spin-off that ties with my story's universe…
But, I know what you all could or would possibly do if you went ahead. So, to keep it clean, I made rules that you have to follow if you are interested in making a My Little Pony - The Age of Dinosaurs spin-off…
Here are guidelines about you writing a spin-off of My Little Pony - The Age of Dinosaurs that I stress should be followed;
1) (an obvious one) No prehistoric animals from other times other than the Mesozoic Era, so no Dimetrodons, Arthropleuras, or Wooly Mammoths…
2) The dinosaurs have to be represented in the most realistic, accurate portrayal possible, so it means (even if it is temping), they will not be just greens, blacks, browns, and greys, go crazy on how colorful they are, and cannot be reptile-like in appearance or behavior (Example: Jurassic Park's Velociraptors)…
3) You can have fictionalized dinosaurs, that's ok, but they have to be realistic, and not be a 'evolutionary descendant' of the very last dinosaur species. So, don't give a made-up dinosaur the ability to fly like a superhero, shoot lasers out of its nose, or make it bigger than any of the largest dinosaurs. If its skill is rooted to a (real) living animal's skill, it is perfectly valid (except a spider's silk creating abilities or anything like or similar to that)…
4) Do not give a dinosaur sapient-like intelligence (even if it is a raptor or Troodont), they can speak if you feel like it (Caveman speech is overrated, so no, "Me dinosaur, you Pony"), and certainly don't make it smart enough to read, write, or invent something…
5) Dinosaurs never, repeat NEVER, refer to themselves as a (Insert dinosaur's species name). You can be slightly more creative on what they would call themselves, but please, don't resort to 'Land Before Time' names, try giving them names that are rooted from another language, like Latin or Japanese or French (Example in Latin: Tyrannosaurus = "Corpus Comedenti" = Body Eater)…
6) Predators are predators, Prey are prey, and a dinosaur is a dinosaur, period. They cannot (and you cannot) change their instincts at all, even if Fluttershy is there to change, for example, an Allosaurus into a vegetarian, or a Triceratops into a super friendly creature that would not fight even its own kind (a semi-loophole would be if the dinosaur was hatched and raised by a pony, though there are exceptions, *cough* sauropods *cough*)…
7) NO REFERENCES TO JURASSIC PARK AND ITS SEQUELS OR PARODIES (unless it is Equestria Girls, but only as a fictionalized movie), OR THERE BEING A JURASSIC PARK, PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. If you want to write a spin-off that makes any kind of reference to Jurassic Park other than being just a movie, then it cannot and will not be accepted as a spin-off to My Little Pony - The Age of Dinosaurs, it will be accepted and branded as a Jurassic Park crossover, period, no exceptions…
8) You cannot include other universes or franchises in any shape or form, for a similar reason as the previous guideline. An example would be, Fossil Pokémon, or from franchises like One Piece, Mario, or any of those, for an obvious reason that it won't be a dinosaur fic anymore…
9) (an extension of #3) Don't go over board with fictionalized dinosaurs, include any existing species as well. And, the dinosaur you are focusing your story on CANNOT be any fictionalized dinosaur or interpretation of a dinosaur (So that means, no neck frilled, venom spitting dinosaurs, please)…
10) (last one, for now) If you must have a dinosaur more like a reptile than a bird, please give a reason why that is so. If the dinosaur you have in mind is a raptor, then it is an immediate NO, because you can make a raptor look harmless, but be frightening, lots of horror films do that kind of thing all the time, like man eating sheep or murderous child toys. Raptors and infant theropod dinosaurs have to be feathered, no exceptions, you can get away with it on other dinosaurs, but not raptors…
This one is more of an optional requirement, but the title of your spin-off can be very vague and/or give a hint on what dinosaur will be featured prominently in you story. If you want to be lazy and write the title with the dinosaur's name, that's perfectly fine…
Awaiting your replies, I can't wait to see your opinions and ideas…
