Trigger Happy - An update on my progress

    Hello fellow readers!

It's... been a while. Yes, last time I was here I'd gone for a hiatus after finishing up Trial 2 almost 5 months ago. In retrospect, taking a long break from writing was definitely something I needed, as otherwise I was in danger of burning out. This last month or so I started dipping into work on Trigger Happy once again, looking to get back in the game.

Shamelessly self-promoting my video content, because why not?

This blog is made in service of promoting my YouTube channel, the videos of which include podcast episodes made by my friend and I, and also some solo videos relating to Keyforge.

If that doesn't sound interesting to you, no worries! Most of you are probably only here for my fanfics, which is great! I appreciate the support. Take care out there.

Dealing with COVID and struggling to write.

    Well... this is unfortunate.

December was a busy month for me, both work-wise and personally, with sorting out things for Christmas and such, meaning I'd had hardly a chance to get any writing done. January rolls around and I finally get a chance to take some time off work to sort out various things, including cranking out that next chapter.

Legacy: The End of Harmony has been cancelled. · 3:55pm Feb 3rd, 2015

Apologies to all who've been following my fanfic Legacy: The End of Harmony, but as of today I am officially cancelling it, meaning it will no longer receive updates. This decision has been a long time coming, and I would rather state it outright than leave the story hanging indefinitely under 'incomplete' status. Simply put, it'd take far too long for me to complete this story, and I'm just not willing to put the effort into it anymore. I'm done.

Again, sorry to all those who have been enjoying it thus far. I'm sure some of you will continue hoping for me to pick it up once again, but it really isn't going to happen. I'm doing what's best for myself. If I was to carry ahead as originally planned, I'd still need to write at least 300,000 words. This, unfortunately, means it would be practically impossible for me to give a rundown of my plans to fans of the story. There are still several important characters that I haven't even introduced yet, and I was forever undecided between two different endings. I came up with a story that was far too ambitious for me to finish. On the bright side, it's been an exercise in learning my limits.

That's unfortunately, but I can understand that you feel the need to move on. I was enjoying Rosa's story, but I am sure you have more good ideas to come.

I never read it but I can understand not wanting to continue it. I never did any of the fanfic ideas I had mainly because they were a bit too big and ambitious(and bad). Hope you do well on your next story regardless of fandom.

Why not make 2 endings? Lots of stories have main ending and alternate endings.
And even if it would take too long, why is that bad?

The fact that it would take so long is a big factor. Sure, you could say that means I've basically wasted hundreds of hours of my life on a story that will never be completed, but I simply don't want to write it anymore, and I would rather cut my losses here and now than struggle on through to the end just for the sake of finishing it.

As for the two endings there was going to be a part where Rosa essentially sacrifices herself for her friends, and I couldn't decide whether she should actually die or somehow survive the ordeal.

Thanks for understanding. I guess in a way I've let you down, huh? :applejackunsure: Unfortunately I don't think I'll be pursuing any of my other ideas. My time as a writer is winding down. I'm sure to finish off Pinkie The Match Maker since I only have one chapter left to write. I'm still undecided as to whether I'm going to continue No Regrets. (What an appropriate title for such a decision, lol)

Thanks for the support.

You haven't let me down at all. In fact, it's been fun giving and receiving feedback. I have enjoyed becoming friends with you through writing.

:fluttercry:

completely understand though, times change and writing is time consuming

I support your choice. I wanted to know why and I now have the answer. Thanks.
And as Einstein said: if you see that you have reached dead end, cut your losses and choose another path (not precise quote).

However, I disagree about wasted hours. They weren't wasted, you have gained something from writing that story, did you not?

2767461
Never say your time writing it was wasted. You learned and refined you craft in that time yes? Perhaps you wouldn't have gotten where you were in your new stories had you not started with that one. I understand "cutting your losses" but don't regret the work you've put in. The long form story is a dying art, most folks go for the quick fix and pump out dump stories that exploit clop or cheap concepts. I think you were leagues better than they for creating something with devotion and love. For that I salute you. It inspires me to finish my own long runner.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint, they say. I say its a bit of both. To stay where we are we have to keep moving with the world that's moving.

I cancel my fic and somehow still inspire you to finish your own? How very strange. :rainbowwild:

But yeah, I get what you're saying about the time not being truly wasted. I learned how not to write, (when I originally posted Legacy it was a total mess, leading me to completely overhaul the first eight chapters or so) and that lofty ambitions can be my downfall. Having four ongoing fics was just insane, and by cutting that down to just two it feels like a pressure valve in my head has been loosened, enabling me to get my creative juices flowing again. I know now not to put too much on my plate, and that I must carefully consider any future writing projects I pursue, to avoid cancelling any more. I have ideas for a murder mystery fic that I think would be really exciting to do, provided I can find my footing.

Top of the list is for me to finally finish Pinkie The Match-Maker, since I have only one more chapter left to write. Once completed, it would be the first novel-length story I've ever written, and I intend to accomplish that. No Regrets is a difficult one, (in that I found it literally the most difficult one to actually write) but I can at least say that my passion for it hasn't completely evaporated, so I'm not ready to cancel it. I'll be taking things one step at a time.

F-F-Friends? :fluttershyouch:

I promised...

I wouldn't...

CRY! :raritycry:

Thanks for your encouragement. I enjoyed giving and receiving feedback too.

You are too sweet. ;)

I know that I need to get back in the swing on The Private Scrapbook, but I want to finish something of a Hearts and Hooves Day clop parody starring Cheerilee. I've got almost eight chapters done, and the story is coming along nicely.

2771101 Beautifully and eloquently put, my friend. :ajsmug:

2771779 Likewise, this is inspiring me to keep going, odd as it sounds. I have my own huge project underway: Fallout Equestria, Darkness Falls. a story that has festered in my head for a long time and now its time has come~
