Story Recap for Dominion of the Night, Part I

Dominion of the Night and the Starfall series as a whole is quite large and I know it can be super easy to lose track of all that's happened... So, to help out, I've written up a summary for the first part of Dominion of the Night.

    Gameloft MLP

So after a random click on Celestia and her telling me I need to make some friends... and well, hoping she meant in game... I figured I should check if any of you play MLP on iOS?

If so, add me! My Gameloft user id is the same as it is here: AuroraScribe

    II

It's gone up a little later than I had hoped, but part II of Starfall: Dominion of the Night has been posted. The story is just waiting on approval but should (hopefully) be available for everyone here shortly.

I'm not sure how other writers approach their stories... whether it be running with a core idea and putting it together beginning to end, or by working on a concept that has you piecing together chapters as they come, or maybe another method entirely... but myself, I tend to write things in a very splatter paint style method. That might seem like an odd way to describe a form of writing, so if you're interested allow me let me explain.

I generally come up with a situation or event that I think has promise. Rarely is this ever enough for a full story, rather, it's usually something that will do quite nicely in chapter 5. (Mind you, at this point I may not have anything for chapters 1-4 yet.) And so, a single chunk of what I believe will be the fifth chapter gets written. Then, when the mood strikes and another idea pops up, I add another piece to the puzzle... perhaps this time, the ending of chapter 2. This goes on, and on (for a long while)... until all of those pieces finally become the whole of an actual story. This is where the real fun begins.

See, it's not done at that point. Far from it, in fact. It's usually too broken up to make much logical sense, and even though it's assigned a certain order, it may not actually fit together as well as I'd like. So from here, it goes into a stage of rewrites which cleans it up and makes it flow like it should. Or at least, like I'd hope that it should.

Actually, it usually goes more like this...

Now, I know this method may not make much sense to a lot of writers. Hell, it doesn't even make much sense to me... but it's just how I prefer to do things. After looking over the numerous pieces of work I've done over the last few years for MLP, it got me to wondering - just how different is my methods to those of others?

I usually just write things as they come to me. I'll have something in my head and if I can make it go past a certain point I'll go ahead and write it out. It may not be a whole story but I'll write it, or if not that I'll keep it in my head until I do.

2655501 For... well, a short time, I tried to write in a similar way. My problem ended up being I couldn't hold onto the idea for very long without losing the details, so once I finally got the chance to sit down and write I mostly just stared blankly at my monitor screen.

I actually find it amazing you can write like that... I wish I could, but I really have such a bad memory. :twilightblush:

I just wish I could've done it for my Pre-Cal class in high school :twilightangry2:.
