A lovesick earth pony goes on a rampage.
A new alicorn reluctantly accepts her position.
A lovelorn pegasus is rescued by a pauper.
And one very confused centaur tries to make sense of the mess that he's found himself in.
WHOOOOO!
Exciting.
Y'know I'd like to see more "so I'm an alicorn? Screw that" fics... The Assumption of Applejack -or- Appletheosis was really close, but Applejack ultimately gave in to the position she never wanted, the power she never asked for, and became a princess-slash-goddess because Celestia and Luna said so.
I've seen a lot of fics where an alicornhood turns out badly, like The Assassination of Princess Twilight Sparkle, or others where the lack of foresight screws over many ponies, if not all of them (like in Fighting Destiny) and drastic steps must be made to recover from that...
I've seen a grand total of two fics where Twilight has the foresight to tell that princesshood is not something she wants/something that would mean a drastic change before she is crowned. Just two, and they are both really short fics. In one, she refuses to complete Star Swirl's spell after fixing her friends, and Celestia tries to get her to do it, only for Twilight to ask why is it so important, get the response, refuse still, and is handled in a mature and responsible way. In the second (by the same author, no less), Twilight freaks out over the alteration of her destiny without even a heads-up, and her relationship with Celestia degrades.
Well, there are others that are similar enough, I guess... but those have her fishing about for a compromise or have external factors/consequences come about after the transformation. Hmm... there is Ein Sof Zealotry, where Twilight's relationship with Celestia eroded away long before the crowning, and she didn't want anything to do with that either... but she tried to make it work out anyways.
I'd like to see more where it gets thrown back at their face. Either before or soon after the fact/ascension or the attempt to have the alicorn (accidental or otherwise) crowned. Without having to wait months before the signs of discontent start cropping up (either in the crowned one or the crowd).

Acceptance doesn't always mean getting with the program.

Oh I know, but the way it was worded... well, I do figure that you have to accept that you're an alicorn now, but it's what one is going to do with tat what's important.
After all, as Twilight herself said, you cannot be happy with a destiny you didn't accept. And cutie marks may be destiny, but they are a destiny of your own choosing... so many, any authors that forget that little detail...
(Oh, and even if you accept it, that doesn't mean you are free of any and all negative consequences, like Assassination and Fighting Destiny proved).
