Is the most addicting, infuriating, fun thing I've played since the first time I bought Xenonauts and XCOM Enemy Unknown.
So addicting that it has actually put a dent in my writing schedule.
So infuriating that I have had to replace my PC joking
So fun that I have three playthroughs running at the same time.
For those of you who don't know what OpenXCOM is
It's on sale for like a dollar, so go and buy it.
Next go to this link and install OpenXCOM
Trust me you won't regret it.
What exactly is it though?
2625493 You know Firaxis XCOM: Enemy Unknown?
This game is the original "UFO: Enemy Unknown" or as it's known in North America "XCOM: UFO Defense" which came out in 1994
OpenXCOM however is an extension for UFO Defense that fixes a vast majority of bugs, and added minor non game breaking tools that helps makes the game more accessible to gamers now a days. Such as keyboard controls. The original game is played entirely with a mouse, thus making it very slow. For instance you had to scroll with the mouse, select your soldiers with the mouse, click every action with the mouse etc. etc. Now they added hot keys which makes everything run a lot smoother.
If you're not a strategy gamer this isn't for you. But for me (I'm a big strategy guy, mainly turn base though) this is like a dream come true.
If it's a good game, I get into it like nothing else, and I got all the xcoms as part of an old Humble Bundle. I'm getting this defintally, because it sounds like it gets rid of the things that drove me nuts about it.
Thanks for this blog post!
Oh man, and the X-COM complete pack is on sale for like $4.
Terror from the Deep, here I come!
2625899 That's another cool thing about OpenXCOM is that the developers incorporated a lot content (such as engineers being able to build more than one thing at a time, damage moddifier, and being able to open UFO doors with out having to enter it) from Terror From the Deep that really should've been in the first.
