What choice do I have discussion · 1:07am Oct 31st, 2014
Alright, so the latest chapter of What choice do I have was released yesterday. I was hoping that the chapter would be a good twist and intensity that my previous chapters seem to lose... Yet it wasn't as well received as I hoped.
Some weren't happy with what was done... And I was hoping to have you talk here and discuss it with me. Give your opinions on the events and what you thought. Or if you ask me a question on anything to the fic, I'll answer it.
I want to get your views and thoughts on how it has been going. Please, advice always helps
2565226 agreed. but i have to ask; am i the only one here who actually wants to see twilight eventually snap out of this thing, only for her to still be convicted for her crimes? i, personally, want to see her get snapped out of this thing she's going through, and have her realize that everything she did and thought was for nothing. every life she took (or will take), relationship she destroyed (or will destroy), was all for nothing. i kinda want this to be a story where nopony comes out of this happy. she get's convicted and punished, and the others have to live with the guilt of what they (whether directly or not) pushed her to become.
I saw the transformation coming from a mile away, so I don't know why people didn't like it. Maybe it was just me, maybe my authors spirit saw something others couldn't. It was made very clear that the powers were unstable when Crimson first used them, it was also made clear that if not stabilized Twilight would die. Which means there were only three options for what could have happened in this chapter:
1. she is killed by Luna.
2. She dies in a fiery burst of flame, vowing to return stronger than ever.
3. she finds a way to stabilize the power, thus making her stronger than Crimson ever was. This is what what happened and is obviously the base choice for the continuity of the story.
a fourth option might have been for her to see the error of her ways and cast out Crimson but the story gave no indication that such a turn about was anywhere near coming to fruition.
I didn't really feel as though it was much of a twist. In most fics where an outside force possesses/helps a character, they usually undergo a transformation into a more powerful "evil version" of themselves, so it wasn't really that surprising given the genre.
It seems as though audience apathy's starting to set in. Either Twilight wins and everyone burns to death while Twilight's left to contemplate what happened (a la Not My Destiny's girmdark ending) or she's defeated/killed, in which she or her friends must deal with the repercussions of all the death and destruction--the option for a "happy" ending has pretty much been removed at this point and there's just the acceptance that something bad's going to happen no matter what.
It's always advisable to be careful with a "full" grimdark ending--not only does it leave little in the way of satisfactorily ending a story, but it has a habit of angering the readers, and that anger is then directed at the story itself as they try to rationalize what inconsistencies occurred to allow it to happen (why didn't Luna stab her instead of punching her! why'd Ceelstia initailly grab the idiot ball! etc.).
2569419 because Luna still is trying to pull her out of the darkness she has fallen in .
And there is still more for the story to see what happens... It will be a satisfying conclusion , trust me
