Short Story: Echoing · 6:01pm Oct 26th, 2014
While I procrastinate work on Chapter 32 of TQP, I decided to do a short first-person story. It's inspired by some personal experience, but namely a fanfic I read over 10 years ago that I can't find. I don't know the author's name or the title of it, just that it was the winner of a Mega Man Zero story contest on Rubychan's website way back then. (www.purplerubyred.com) Now that site is almost nothing. What a shame...
I was hoping to find it to link it, but not even her deviant Art journal posts speak of it, and I can only find the fan art contest that occurred around the same time period.
I can elaborate more on it, but it's probably a much grimmer story than anything I could write. The main inspiration from it is the ambiguous first person. They used misdirection as they lead you on to figure out which of four characters the story is being told through. It's a quite a challenge to do something like that, having to be careful of any words or dialogue that can be directly attributed to a character. (Granted, it's FAR easier to do something like this for characters that have next to no dialogue ever...)
Nonetheless, it's probably not a story for most of the fans of The Quiet Place. Though TQP includes a lot of sadness at times, its thematic agenda is different.
It was very difficult to find a picture I wanted to use for this story. Here's the closest runner-up choice:
They Both See The Traps by Vulpessentia
Not that the one chosen really suits my intent much more, it was the slightly more appropriate choice.
I might be able to make you a cover, if you'd like.
