Because I haven't actually made you listen to me gush about Rainbow Rocks yet (spoilers inside) · 5:58am Oct 11th, 2014

Seriously, this lady is absolutely amazing.

I wasn't really a big fan of Sunset as the bad guy, but now that she's joined the ranks of Luna and Discord as a reformed and productive member of society, I just can't get enough of her.

Not to mention, she's super cute.

Although this time around, I've fallen for one of the villains as well.

Cutest and most bestest villain. For realzies.

Whatcha gonna do about it?

And yes, I ship it.

Now that I've finished gushing, onto the other reason for this post.

Firstly, if you like adorable, blue-haired villains with ponytails, come join the adorable, blue-hard villains with ponytailsSonata Dusk group.

And if you like emoticons and equestria girls, come see what I've done.

Hurry up and get on Netflix already! :raritydespair:

What is it with Sonata Dusk? I don't get it. At all. I get Sunset Shimmer, I agree, she was awesome here. I'd say she's the best reformed villain so far, they're actually exploring her reformation in more than 22 minutes. And I love the "Dear Princess Twilight" and I want that to be a thing.

But... Sonata Dusk is just a ditzy villain. She's like the hyenas in The Lion King. Why is she everyone's waifu all of a sudden?

Largely because the Dazzlings in general were just plain amazing villains. Granted, most of that is Adagio, but a lot of her moxie rubs off on Sonata simply by association. When she is singing, or wandering the cafeteria caressing random people, there is a certain degree of allure and competence being presented.

She also has that sort of Pinkie (and the Brain) thing going on where she's not quite on the same sheet of music as her fellow sirens. Maybe she is like the hyenas, but she's cute while doing it, be it evil or neutral things she's doing, unlike the hyenas that are designed to be ugly and unappealing. Unlike Pinkie himself who is designed to be just purely silly and aesexual looking. She doesn't feel trapped into over the top ditzyness. She isn't just some happy-go-lucky buffoon who is there for comedy relief and nothing else.

It's a balance thing, between the "no really, I am competent as a villain, and I really can mind-control you to do my bidding" sort of power thing, combined with the ditz that creates a more rounded, relatable, and appealing character. Rather than the examples of the hyenas or Pinkie, I would say she is a lot more like Ty Lee (Avatar the Last Airbender) or Harley Quinn.

On top of everything Cryo said (which is all true as far as I'm concerned), I care about her and see potential in her character for fics.

The visual appeal helped draw me in and her personality snared me, so now I am left with a million questions concerning her origins, her motivation for sticking with her fellow villains, and her present disposition as of the end of the movie and beyond.

As pretty and quirky!fun as I find Sonata, I too find myself sharing
2525148's sentiments, to the point where even 2525231's usual rational and awesome explanations don't really do it for me. Like, seriously, out of all three of those freaking amazing Sirens, why her, and why so much?

Is it because when fantasizing about them and putting them into all those garish 'you-fics', Sonata's the least likely to say "no?" :P

Then I realize that 2525348's POV on Sonata is pretty much the exact same thing which has me writing a book about Coco Pommel.... and let's face it, all she is is technically a cute girl who quit her job.

So much for my ability to judge, then.

The taco meme could stand to slow down, though. Sorry, Cryo. :pinkiehappy:

I have to admit that fic-wise, a lot of the draw I feel can be applied to both Adagio and Aria as well. But on top of that, Sonata has a ton of neat facial expressions, really just emotive in general. And as I said, visual appeal was a big draw for me.

As Jondor said. When We were sitting in Skype watching the shorts prior to the movie coming out, we were both chatting away about just how damn expressive Sonata is.

Aria kind of just has her normal pissed off/irritated look. She occasionally drifts out of her comfort zone into things like an evil smirk. If you're looking really closely, you can sort of see subtle varations on her normal p-o/i look, but you have to be fairly generous to get a very high count of different expressions.

Adagio is much more expressive. She has her superior evil smirk, but she easily and naturally shifts to surprise, sultry, angered, and so on. She tends to go for more quality than quantity with her expressions, and is overall rather well animated.

Then just watch Sonata. She can go through nearly a dozen different expressions just in a short bit of dialog only a few dozen seconds long tops. Some are silly or comical, but her range of facial expressions is just plain stunning. I'd say in the length of the movie, she probably rivals some of the M6 who've had the same movie, plus another, and 4 seasons worth of episodes to build up a repoertoire.

OK, maybe that was slightly exaggerated. But she really is just plain fun to watch.

Hmmmmmmm.

Fair enough. All righty--I'll keep an eye on her expressions when my Blu-ray comes in.

...I sincerely doubt "really cute facial expressions!" are the explanation the rest of bronydom has for foisting waifu-status on her, however. :trollestia:

Close your eyes. Inhale slowly, exhale slowly. Repeat this ten times.

When you open your eyes, I want you to read what you just wrote, with a cleared mind, then think about bronies claiming waifues.

2527372

So what happened was

I was annoyed
I did the breathing thing
I was calm
I read what I wrote
I thought about bronies claiming waifus
and then I was back to annoyed

I'm clearly really bad at getting jokes this week. I think I'm just going to go to bed.

It's okay. Thinking about bronies has that effect on people. :raritydespair:
