RealityCheck's Ripoffs · 10:38am Sep 29th, 2014
RealityCheck's latest stories are freaking blatant ripoffs of other people's work. I am NOT KIDDING!
I understand doing retelling a story if you want to make a satirical point, if you wish to be funny and point out why a story doesn't work. Fine! Go ahead. If it's funny, that's good! Or if you wanna do a new take on a story by looking at it from another perspective? That's fine too! "Wicked" did that and I love both the book and the musical.
But this isn't satire and it isn't some new perspective. They are rewrites that ignore the basic foundations and points of the original story while cramming the author's point of view down our throats. It involves an idiotic dig at middle eastern culture in "Shorn" and in "Tirek gets a righteous beat down" Spike is tremendously overpowered and the Mane Six who are supposed to come together and overcome Tirek with Twilight finally coming into her true power as an Alicorn being the heroine of the day. It was a well done finale. His story has Tirek creamed by Spike grown to large size with shoulder cannons after being weakened a bit by a small military force, which makes no sense given the power he took.
The stories are just not well written and insulting both to the show and the original stories they are retelling. They just come off as "things should have gone THIS WAY BECAUSE I SAID SO", but because the way that way it was mean to go makes no sense, Reality has to alter the characters abilities and personalities drastically. Making them near unrecognizable.
So...no. It's time to say "no more", my friends. If RC makes any more stories like that, I will immediately get to work on reviewing them and analyzing why they don't work.
I'm sorry to hear that, especially after you recommended me to him not so long ago. Are there any authors on this site you think I may want to check out?

Well, redskin122004 is a good choice. As is AnonymousMaterials's "Mort Takes A Holiday". And the original stories that RC ripped off ARE well worth checking out.
Here, I'll post the links:

Thanks for the suggestions, mate. I've already checked out Past Sins and didn't really find it to my liking, but I will be sure to look up your other recommendations.
I was a fan of RealityCheck for a long time, but I've since become disillusioned with him. I still think his story "Nightmare Night and Nyx" was adorable, though!
