A Little Reminder about the Bush Years

I want to remind people about how awful the Bush years truly were.

-Free Speech Zones, which were a real thing and not a plot element in a particularly ham-handed dystopian novel.
    -The phrase “hidey hole.”

Why do the fandoms I love attract misanthropes so much?

I have no idea why the fandoms I love so much attract misanthropes. But they do. My Little Pony? God in Heaven, Chatvoyance's work is absolutely disgusting, saying humans are without souls, that it's BEST if Celestia and Luna turn all humans into ponies cuz humans are so inferior whilst bashing on all human culture and religion and philosophy. Invader Zim, OH GAG ME WITH A SPOON, I've seen fanfic

    "The Lost Element" is misanthropic

You may or may not know of the story "The Lost Element". And it's author, Humanity.

    SCOTUS Ruling

It's over and done. First it was Obamacare. Now gay marriage. And I'm glad the court made the right decision.

But WOWWWW. Scalia flipped. His. Shit. He went insane in his dissents. It's be funny if it wasn't so disturbing he got to a position of power in this day and age.

Why do the fandoms I love attract misanthropes so much? · 1:34am Jan 28th, 2016

Invader Zim, OH GAG ME WITH A SPOON, I've seen fanfic after fanfic, art piece after art piece GLORIFYING the space nazis that are the Irken race, saying that humanity DESERVES to be DESTROYED AND OR ENSLAVED by a race TEN TIMES WORSE THAN HUMANITY WAS ON A BAD DAY. And Undertale?

I REALLY thought it might be different, but...no. Unfortunately, ALL the blame gets put on humans, NONE of it on the monsters. Humans bad, monsters good, Frisk is the only exception! Never mind the fact that EVERY SINGLE MONSTER EITHER TRIES TO KILL FRISK OR WANTS HUMANITY DESTROYED. Never mind the fact Sans freely admits had he not made a promise to a woman he didn't even know, he would have turned a CHILD into a stain on the snow. Never mind the fact SIX OTHER KIDS died in the Underground. You gonna argue all of them were like Chara, they were sociopaths who deserved to die?

I just don't know what it is about these fandoms that bring out humanity-hating. I just don't. And I know what you're gonna say. "Humans do awful things". EVERYONE does awful things. Dolphins rape. Ant colonies will enslave other ants. The cuckoo bird will push baby chicks out of the nest it's put in. Mice EAT THEIR KIDS. Animals are monsters to each other. And they don't have laws and morals. Humans do.

And I know what someone is gonna say. That "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions". The road to EVERYWHERE is paved with good intentions. Nobody ever wakes up having bad intentions. Everyone is the hero of their own story. EVERYONE thinks they're doing the right thing, or if they do bad, it's because they feel something was unfairly taken from them, or is owed to them, or they're doing it for someone or something they love. So no, religion ain't the only thing that can make good people do bad things and still be thought of as good people. How many people have killed in the name of Love, or country, or in self-defense, and still thought of themselves as good people?

I don't know what it is with current popular culture that's so obsessed with the apocalypse and misanthropy. But I'm getting really tired of it. And I'm honestly beginning to think I'm seriously running out of fucks to give, to forgive my French. This kinda stuff is wearing me down. It's just EVERYWHERE.

I know where you're coming from, shit like that makes me mad as well. But I guess you just have to try and brush it off? I don't really have any solid advice, just be careful about bottling up anger. It won't end well...

Also there was a MASSIVE backlash to the misanthropy on this side. So if I were you I would try to just focus on the philanthropic works instead (and socialize with people who don't constantly spout hate).

But yeah, sometimes it may seem like misanthropy is everywhere. You're definitely not the only one feeling that way...

Oh well, we should just laugh at the stupidity that is misanthropy. Or pity the people that feel that way. Probably both.
Misanthropes are assbags for spewing their annoying human-hating shit wherever they go but I think quite a few of them roams certain fandoms just to escape reality. It's... kinda sad.

Some people think too much in absolutes, and too much in collectives - the result is that they condemn an entire group, regardless of whether it is a religion, a nation, an ethnic, a gender, or an entire species, for the flaws of what comparably is a minority of said group. And it may very well be that this includes the flaws they see within themselves.

I will admit that I am also a bit like that, too quick to condemn someone (and often that someone is myself), but I have come to the conclusion that problems in society usually boil down to evolutionary flaws (memetic and genetic) and a few assholes that amass too much power. Nothing to exterminate the species over, we just need to get serious about social engineering - and engineer the society we want, not the plutocratic neofeudalism they want.
