A Little Reminder about the Bush Years · 11:54pm Aug 22nd, 2016
I want to remind people about how awful the Bush years truly were.
-Free Speech Zones, which were a real thing and not a plot element in a particularly ham-handed dystopian novel.
-The phrase “hidey hole.”
-Watching a budget surplus become a massive deficit that was bigger than it even looked because the White House was just like, “Okay, we’ll just not put the wars on the books and just ask for more money for those every few months.”
-The sheer number of times Alberto Gonzalez said, “I don’t recall,” to Congress regarding war crimes and human rights violations.
-“…now watch this drive.”
-Mission Accomplished.
-“The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence,” “yellowcake uranium,” Condoleeza’s “mushroom clouds” fearmongering, and all the other bullshit we were fed to get into Iraq.
-The President of the United States said so many stupid things that there were one-a-day calendars consisting of an individual quote for each day of the year. They didn’t all have the exact same quotes.
-“There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
-And then we went to war.
-“Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms; creating or implanting embryos for experiments; creating human-animal hybrids; and buying, selling or patenting human embryos.” - George W. Bush, 2006 State of the Union
-We un-ironically referred to a whole set of countries as the “Axis of Evil” as if that phrase gives us some kind of meaningful understanding of their geopolitical role and isn’t borrowed straight out of a mediocre made-for-TV superhero movie.
And...of course...
We literally got a terrorism forecast on the news every morning like it was pollen. So many of the things that happened, if they were in a dystopian novel, people would be like, “That’s way too goofy and ridiculous to actually happen in real life,” and yet they did.
Yes. The LAST. ONE'S. REAL.

Not only was the terror threat system real, but it was often raised and lowered based entirely on how panicked they wanted us to be. Famously they raised the level for no reason during the 2004 election. It was the "don't change your pants in mid-shit" maxim, SOLELY to help Bush win.
And “Free Speech Zones” looked something like this:
It was literally a cage. I HATE that people, even those in my OWN age group, forget so easily that the Bush era was truly that bad. They forget how truly effing horrifying it was.
And for those who complain about Hillary changing positions? How about THIS?
Donald isn’t pro-immigration reform, he wants to build a wall up and deport 11 million people. He wants to ban Muslims. He’s flip-flopped on abortion and women’s rights again and again and said UGLY things about women all campaign. He’s bigoted and racist, saying ugly things about Mexicans. He’s played funny with the Klan and disavowing David Duke. He’s involved in multiple class action lawsuits for blatant fraud in regards to Trump U. He’s lied about his actual net worth. He’s bitter and nasty enough to do something like launch a cruise missile at Russia cuz they insulted his tiny hands on Twitter. He has no understanding at all of foreign policy. He’s nationalistic and pompous and arrogant. He thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax! He thinks the minimum wage should be LOWER!
Hillary Clinton doesn’t want to do nor believe in ANY of that.
This couldn’t be simpler. And all this...is why DONALD TRUMP CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO BECOME PRESIDENT.
I would firstly point out that I'm not supporting either Trump or the bitch.
There are other candidates for president.
I don't think either one should be president as they both have sheets that disqualify them.
But you seem to forget the extra 9 trillion that Obama has racked up in the space of a single fiscal year.

Yeah, remind me again how much debt FDR racked up at first thanks to this little thing called the DEPRESSION? What do you EXPECT to happen when we have the largest financial disaster in modern history. You HAVE to spend money to get out of such things.

Indeed but unemployment is still hovering close to 50% of certain population centers and is destined to only get worse if companies start leaving.
FDR did as much as possible to get the private sector to produce employment and in the end it was a world war that saved us from a continued decline.
