I think I've settled on a character to focus my next story on: the awesome Vinyl Scratch.
I had an idea where she goes deaf from noise-induced hearing loss. The story would follow her adaptation to this, along with Octavia supporting her. It'll be friend-shipping but nothing romantic, primarily for two reasons:
1) I don't think I'm ready to write romance yet.
2) I'm not an avid support of Vinyl-Octavia shipping. I see them more as best friends really. That said I don't turn a blind eye to fics that do have them romantically involved.
Deafness is a sensitive topic though and something I cannot blindly charge into. This is why I'm a bit fearful of going ahead with this idea; the last thing I want to do is unintentionally offend anyone. Chances are I'll drop the idea until I'm more confident as an author yet I'd still like to know what you guys think of the idea. So drop a comment here and such.
Moving on to stuff in my life that I suppose is slightly Vinyl related? It's a bad link but hey, this is a blog. You write stuff about yourself in it, right?
As you may/may not know, I live in the UK and the Olympics are coming up very soon. So obviously, colleges and schools around the country are getting into the spirit! My college is having a day where you can do activities (hardly any of which are to do with sports...some are to do with cultures though). One of the activities is learning to be a DJ.
Que my face as Me Gusta with me operating a turn table imagining I'm Vinyl Scratch. I must get glasses like hers and it'll be perfect. I'll be head banging like a loon and no one will know why...aah the joys of hiding your bronyself from everyone.
Wub wub wub.
wub wub indeed i like the fannon versions of Scratch a lot i dont know why
Only thing I don't like about Vinyl Scratch fics? She knows or lives with Octavia in EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. We don't even know if they've ever seen one another in canon. But I don't mind reading them. Good luck with yours.
As long as your careful and do some research, baring in mind that it's surprising what disabled people can do, it should be fine. I don't know any deaf people, but my mother was a blind quadroplegic for an extensive period of time, so I know that as long as you're respectful, I don't see a problem with it.
