    What's happening recently.

So for those of you who've read the epilogue to TOWAT, thank you for reading it to the end. If you haven't gotten into it yet, go and take a look, but there's mother/son incest involved, otherwise, avoid it like the plague if that isn't your cup of tea.

    Apologies

Let's get some worries out of the way:

    1) I'm not dead. I still come on here to read the fics while I'm at work during break and lunch.
    2) I'm not quitting TMS. I vowed I'd get the series done before the end of this year (which is especially special since this is my chinese new year, the rooster, though I'm not sure if that's a good motivator).

Sucky Holiday Updates, a.k.a. Vent Blog.

So yeah ... Christmas kind of blew for me this year, specifically with work. Seriously, fuck retail during the holidays, and I thought working at a grocery store during this time was bad.

Night blogging (2) · 9:42am Aug 27th, 2014

... Sorry about that, I didn't think pressing enter in the title bar would actually submit it that quickly.

Anyway, I'm up this freakishly late at night (15 til 3 am) because I had to do as much of the rest of homework needed done to turn in for drawing class tomorrow... Or later today... Whatevs. I just have that, and the following day before I'm done with classes, and I get a month off before I start the fall term in college. Though I'll probably look for a new job while I get more hours in my current one (because I need to make better money than the crap I'm getting paid right now), I'll still have plenty of time to spare to write for you guys. Aren't you just lucky?

Oh, and I'll be out of town this Saturday, and coming back Sunday for Labor Day weekend. I'm going to try to add a new chapter to TMS before I leave, but with what I still need to do, I'm not sure if that's guaranteed, so don't freak out that I somehow stopped updating at my freakishly fast pace like usual.

Now for some random night chat before bed. I'm a guy that likes classical music. It may have been because of the 8 years of playing the violin that had me developing this taste, but I'm not complaining. I found listening to it while doing artsy stuff like drawing and sometimes writing helps me get into more of that creative hype I mentioned a bit ago. Recently, I've developed a bit of a taste for jazz as well because that's some of the music that was played while we worked on our drawings in class.

Here's a question to all of you: Have you ever looked back at your songs in your playlist, and ask yourself how the fuck did you get into that kind of music when you got it?

I mean when I'm looking at it now, I wasn't sure if I bought some of them because it was popular at the time, or if I was still exploring new types of music I come across. For example: I have artists like Tech N9ne and Skrillex in mine. I don't know how I got into rap, hip hop, or dubstep before, but I know I'm not into that now, and I want to just delete such artists that I don't even listen to anymore.

Now there are artists that I'll ALWAYS admire and respect. Like Michael Buble... That's really it. I don't know, I know some of the songs he sang may be reboots from earlier classics, but one thing about jazz that's interesting is that you can pretty much bend a few rules here and there to make that song yours. I mean that's not the case with JUST that genre, it can be for ANY song based on how you view it from the melody, lyrics, and culture behind them. I like Michael because he's one of those people that doesn't need freakin' technology like autotunes or whatever newer, electronic instruments are currently used today. No, he goes back to the basics with an orchestra or small band to provide the melody, and he just kinds of GOES for it when he sings you know? I heard there were a few concerts that when his microphone was having problems, his baritone voice STILL carried through the stadium. That not only shows how good he is, but how confident he is when doing it. He may get pre-stage jitters like most other artists, sure, but he doesn't need to get fancy with choreography, or do something drastic in public to gain the attention. No, he stands in front of hundreds or thousands of people on stage, and shows what he's made of with his singing alone, loud, and proud. He's JUST that good in my opinion, and I pray that as time moves forward, we can still value the more traditional types of music that works with real instruments, and think back to how awesome they sound back in the day... God, I'm only 21, and I'm talking like I'm freakin' 40, I MUST be getting tired. I better get to bed now. It's 3 now, and I'm going to be a HECK of a lot tired tomorrow... Later, whatever.

This is Dudeler, signing off.

My Dad. All because of my Dad my playlist is what it is. Underground Hip-Hop and the classic who're still killin' it

hm I hear all kinds of music I'm very random lol up from time to time make an occasional music :moustache:

I'm pretty much listen to open minded but 'm mainly a rock guy but I listen to a good rap or hip hop once in awhile. Mainly the 80's or Eminem.

Have you ever looked back at your songs in your playlist, and ask yourself how the fuck did you get into that kind of music when you got it?

Not really. My mother introduced me to Rachmaninoff at a young age. She had taken piano lessons herself as a youth, and played me a few of her favorite songs as best she could. As she explained it, her fingers were a bit too short to handle some of the harder pieces. Not like my spindly fingers. She was always quick to point out how I had "pianist's hands".

So, from a very young age, I've loved classical music.

Starting in middle school, I heard Korn and 90's Metallica for the first time. Instant obsession. My progression from hard rock to heavy metal in high school was a fairly natural one; I heard things I liked, and I searched for those same elements until the point where I'd gone from Korn to Machine Head and God Forbid. (I actually started out with Burn My Eyes when it came to Machine Head, but Through The Ashes Of Empires was my favorite album as a teen, by far.)

Weirdly enough, it was probably my love of classical music that drove me from radio rock to the much heavier genre of metal. Even if metal and classical music sound nothing alike in practice, in their compositions they're not quite so dissonant as one would expect.

I listen to techno mostly because of ocremix.org remixing a lot of my favorite game tracks, and partially because of certain brony artists. I listen to rap because it's actually an amazingly powerful form of expression if it's done intelligently, and with emotion. (See: Eminem, Hopsin, Immortal Technique. Don't see: Most of the trash played by local radio stations/BET/MTV.)

And then, there are always the weird outliers, songs I like in genres I generally don't. Soul of a Man, by Steven Stern, and Gary Jules' Mad World are good examples. A few Johnny Cash songs make the 'out-of-left-field' list, too, along with songs by Blue Oyster Cult, The Court of the Crimson King, and Pink Floyd.

Really, when you're younger, you're always trying to compartmentalize other people in a manner that makes socialization easier, and music is no exception. It's common to thrust individuals into groups based off their preferences. High schoolers are notoriously bad about this. As you get older, though, you start listening to whatever the Hell you want, because you realize that if your peers are judging your character by your taste in music, they're just puerile, underdeveloped idiots and are worth neither your attention nor your respect.

Especially when you can toss on a pair of headphones, put on your favorite music, and ignore them.

I'll listen to pretty much anything, except whatever Blood on the Dance Floor is, screamo metal, and punk rock. Really depends on what kind of a mood I'm in. Sad = Rap, Creative = Classical/Grunge Happy = Pretty much anything, but mostly Rap, Country, Classical, and Grunge. Those are my 4 most commonly listened genres. Oh, and Rock, can't forget rock. Other than that, I really enjoy the music made by this fandom, which is mostly why I'm in the fandom. For the fan works. Anyways, I'm blabbing. Have a good day!

2405990 hell yeah ! when i was going the a phase i listened to dark metal, and yesterday i was cleaning my play list and came across one of those song and it disturbed me :facehoof:

Jazz huh? Good to see there are some outside my jazz band that still appreciate good music.:ajsmug: Saxes are magic by the way, well, so long as they're the soprano, alto, baritone, or soprillo! Just need to knock that last one off the list on saxophones to play in jazz. :twilightsheepish:

2423821 Well I was in orchestra from middle school to high school, and while I haven't been to many [jazz] band concerts, I'm always open to music I haven't listened to yet. I want to try listing as much songs that interest me as I can so I could look them up for purchase later, so I may do the same with some jazz as well. It's still fairly new to me, but I like the way they sound. Do you have any recommendations to some artists or bands? Whether it's mostly instrumental, or has vocals like Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra, I'm good with either.

2423977 I myself am more partial to the big band era of jazz, so anything like Glenn Miller, who is known for American Patrol, Mission to Moscow, and In the Mood, is what I typically head towards. I'll just make a list of some songs/groups I like (I don't know all the artists).
Jazz:
Night in Tunisia
In the Mood, Mission to Moscow, American Patrol: Glenn Miller
*BAND* "Airmen of Note"
Sing Sang Sung
Nightingale in Berkley Square: Frank Sinatra
I'll Always Smile in the Spring
Birdland
Afternoon (Mellower song ref.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRAcTM2nCNM abt 5-6 mins in... still remember how much I used to suck at solos (: )
Here, There, and Everywhere (next after prev. ref.)
On the Street Where You Live (above link, approx. 18:00)

Ok, not as short as I thought, but an OK variety.
Also, mayhaps thou wouldst be interested in a marching band version of Jupiter (from "The Planets")?

2426485 Not really into marching band music personally. heard enough of those already back in high school football games.

2426599 Mkay. The original version of Jupiter in itself is good enough.

2426603 Alright. Thanks for the input!
