So, Alone doesn't look like it will be near the success of even Progress, and I would have rather some other start than commentators making jokes about their dicks. That said, it's going to the people most interested in it, and the feedback I'm actually receiving is pretty positive. Plus...

Sometimes it's the little things you have to appreciate.

It's a self discovery story on a site, whose core demographic is past the self discovery stage.

To add to that, Asexuality lacks the inherent drama of stigma, when compared to homosexuality (Which is a good thing for society, but a bad thing for writers :P).

And of course "Asexuality" is the new black for characterdriven dramas, which on the one hand means that a lot of people are introduced to the concept (good), but on the other hand has opened the floodgates for a new era of "sexploitation" stories, comics, whatever....(bad). All to often reading "Asexual" in the description is a shorthand for "cheap drama in a can".
(This paragraph doesn't relate to your story, but to the state of the writng "industry" in general.)

Really? The new black? I've seen two stories on this site dealing with asexuality, mine included. Not that I don't doubt people are being spiteful just because they dislike identity drama stories. One of my "commentators" seemed to feel that way, but the other asexuality fic did get featured, and I've seen other identity dramas get a lot of attention. While you say people are sick of it, there is a market for it here on the site, so I don't think that entirely why its floundering. For all I know its the fact that the first four comments were people talking about their own dicks and a sneer that drove people away. Or just not enough people who would have cared logged in today.

*shrug*

It's not really something easily discussed. It's still doing better than my other popular flop, at least insofar as I'm actually getting meaningful feedback. So, that's something. Plus, something may happen tomorrow. Who knows.

To be honest, the reason I didn't read your story was because I thought it would be something like this. (And that's from a comic I like.)

1) Hey, El Goonish Shive. Sweet. Need to read more of that.
2) What's wrong with that?
3) ... Eh? A little?
