Random Idea #83: Sword vs Gun fights (in visual media)

I had some shower thoughts after watching some various fight shows, specifically about choreography. So, I assume we’re all broadly familiar with sword fights.

Note that “gun” and “sword” here are simply shorthand for any ranged, projectile weapon and any melee weapon, punches and kicks included.

Idea #82: A random review of Cyberformula: Road to the Infinity 1 to 4

The audience for this game outside of Japan is probably in the low hundreds, but after binging the games for the past two weeks, I needed some way to organize my thoughts.

First of all, what is Cyberformula?

    Sonic Franchise
Seriously, how the hell did I forget about the franchise memetically associated with hundreds of fan OCs?
    1) Setting: Mobius and other various locales seem to imply a fairly Earth like world [1]
    2) Inhabitants: waves hand in the vague direction of sonic OCs [1]

Random Idea #81: Complaining about Scale in third person POV games

In most games at human-scale, and even car scale to a certain extent, the 3rd POV doesn’t greatly change how large things appear to be. Your avatar is still going to look small when standing next to a large truck. The game “It Takes Two” is a great example of this, since the characters are shrunk to the size of dolls and tossed into the insides of machines and snowglobes. A gear the size of a

Random Ideas #9 (G-man) · 4:04am Jul 8th, 2014

Star Swirl panted, the fingers protruding from his augmented hooves desperately clutching a compact clawgun. He didn't sign up for this! He was a scientist, pursuing the secrets of the universe! Not fighting for his life. Really, the only reason he wasn't dead was because he had some decent defensive spells, and their power supercharged from machines embedded in his bones.

Star Swirl gently fed mana into the metal antennae bolted onto his forehead, his wings flapping gently to cover the sound of his hoof steps. A growling, grunting noise echoed down the bloody hallway. He picked up a wet, fleshy thing (seriously, zombies too?) and quietly lobbed it across the hallway. The shadow paused, looking to the side. Star Swirl flapped his wings, hard, shooting towards the alien. The strange biped turned its head to the sound and met a faceful of freezing foam slamming into its face. Star Swirl did a backflip, landing on his rear hooves and raised the fire extinguisher over his head.

Star Swirl looked sorrowfully at the blood coating his hooves, the drip it made as a retractable fruit knife slid into its sheath. He hated how he had to kill the alien in order for him to be able to save his comrades back home. Though now that he had a moment to think about it, he didn't really have an idea what he was going to do after. He was stuck in enemy territory, and he really doubted they were going to provide him a free ticket home.

His ears flicked. The blood puddle stopped flowing. Dust clouds floated, immobile. A pony in a blue business suit straightened his tie- wait, what?.

"He-llo, Mr. Starswirl," the pony said. "Sorry, if you feel a little naked, but I had to remove your... augmentations for the time being."

Starswirl's eyes bugged out. He quickly reached above him... phew, his horn was still there. He fluffed his - My wings!

"Nice work over there. Reminds me of another fellow, far away. My employers agree that you show promise, and would like to offer you a job. You have shown to be able to make tough decisions without a second thought, so I'll be brief. Walk to this portal over here and I will take that as an agreement. If not... well, it won't be pretty for you."

Welcome back, Mr. Starswirl. Sorry for the future disorientation, but it was the most efficient way to ... set the stage. Unlike my other.... client, your new assignment isn't as strenuous. It is instrumental in making sure your country exists at all. So wake up. Wake up, and shiver in the freezing winds.

A groan escaped from the tired, bearded unicorn. Star Swirl sat up from his bed, rubbing his eyes.

"Something the matter, sir?" a young voice asked from the kitchen.

"Nothing important, Clover," Starswirl said. "Just -" his eyes unfocused slightly, trying to remember a fading memory, " - a bad dream."

Is this how you were imagining StarSwirl?

derpicdn.net/img/2012/8/20/78560/full.jpg

Not really. More like if the "claw" at the end of Doc Octopus's claw was retractable and installed underneath the flesh of the hoof. In everyday situations, like walking, it slides inside and nearly unnoticeable, except for tiny, closed slots.

2266114

That sounds painful.

2266115
Cybernetics. Its not as painful when you're partially mechanical. I have a thing for cybernetics. You may notice that StarSwirl here is actually a pegasus, that G-man screwed over.

This was roughly how I imagined the hoof/finger thing in my mind. The frog retracts slightly, but can still act like a "palm" of sorts. The edges of the hoof back away and extends the fingers. Kinda like a claw. And also, there should be 4 fingers, but I felt that would make the drawing confusing.

And yes, I spent the morning after my breakfast drawing this. Slowly.

2266938

Cool design.

I could really see it for somepony that wants a hoof that looks normal, but still wants to be able to... well, pick stuff up.

2267081
Taken from the Description:

Basically, the edges of the "hoof" fold back. The frog retracts slightly while fingers come out. Yes Dorky, I've been taking steps for some of these prostheses to not all be joints and metal poking out. The design was to be slightly more concealed anyways.

Though mostly because this wasn't a human body part. I have trouble resisting that urge. Makes it more obvious its a cyborg instead of a strangely dressed guy.

2267085

Kinda gave me a vibe like those 'typing hands' in Ghost in the Shell.

Normal looking one moment, and then...

2267096
For whatever reason, that ability was taken out of the androids in StandAloneComplex. They still type obscenely fast though.

2267100

...Wait, what?

That was supposed to be a standard feature?

Just... what? :applejackconfused:

I got the impression that dude was an obscenely paid slash specialized secretary with implants to match.

2267108
Are we talking about the same thing here? I'm talking about these gynoids, not cyborgs. They're somewhat mass produced Operators who do office tasks or something.
Looking through the wiki, they stopped using filament fingers because they were advanced enough to type obscenely fast anyways.

And of course, these tanks are the cutest of the bunch

2267145

Oh right...

I'd completely forgotten that bit.

Time to re-watch that movie, i guess.

2267149
Anime is better. Watch it instead.
Stand Alone Complex

Chilling and fascinating.

Star Swirl worked for G-Man?
Interesting...

2635902
Its basically a half-hearted attempt at a Half Life crossover without using Gordon Freeman.

Another version has Starswirl be a pseudo immortal by using the Mirror Pool.

2635934
And you did it well. I like it.

...Interessant. How would that work?
