[Ungrounded] Format Change · 5:21pm Jun 29th, 2014
Well, sort of, because I don't know how else to put this. I'm changing the chapter formatting, in the sense of chapter length.
Because I just broke a hiatus of unprecedented length, and returned with a 7,000 word chapter.
I mean, who wants to return to reading a story with a chapter of that length? I know a few stories on my favorite list that I've put off because of lengthy chapters.
And I know you guys don't want it, because this chapter has the lowest view count of any chapter beforehand. So I need to shake things up to get you all back in the game.
Which means that the next few chapters are (hopefully) going to be around 3,000 words, and (hopefully) released more rapidly than before. I'm shooting for at least one chapter every 2 weeks.
Now, that sounds like quite a bit of time, but it's probably an overestimate. Because, honestly, with chapters at 3,000 words, I could probably finish them in one night each, though it would undoubtedly destroy any plans for that night, and a fair amount of my sleep.
But anyway, tl;dr: I'm gonna try to get shorter chapters out faster. Sound good?
Yaaaaay!
Though, to be fair, it takes much longer chapters than 7k words to scare me off, though a long hiatus on a story that's not fantastic (not a problem you have on either count) usually does.
Shorter chapters= quicker release time. I see no problem with this
To be honest, I still haven't read the latest chapter. Part of that might have to do with the length, but 7000 words isn't really that much. I think it has more to do with the fact that I fell way behind on a lot of stories during finals week a while back and still haven't completely caught up. And it doesn't help that it's been so long since the last chapter that I'll probably have to go back and remind myself what's going on in the story.
Shorter chapters released more frequently might help with some of that, but short chapters can also feel unsatisfying. Just make sure you don't sacrifice quality for speed, I suppose.

Don't worry about my writing losing quality. That's something I pride myself in, keeping free of most errors without an editor. And I understand completely about having to remind yourself about what happened last chapter. That's what I figured to be the biggest factor stopping people from reading the new chapter.
