Biting the bullet, looking for an editor/pre-reader · 5:34am Jun 28th, 2014
New project in the works: a multi-chapter one, focusing on Celestia with a definite "sad" tag attached. I've become very passionate about this work. More passionate than my usual, and more obsessive about making it as good as I can make it.
I've never *had* an editor/pre-reader/whatever before, so I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into by asking if someone's willing to edit it for me. My big worry is pacing - someone to tell me if a scene needs more details, or if it's dragging from too many. If an idea that recurs across chapters helps keep the idea fresh, or just beats a dead tree.
I guess... just someone to give me their opinion. I don't plan on making massive changes based on strangers' suggestions, but I'm curious how the story looks to someone taking a fresh look at it.
You're probably gonna want to shop around the editor or pre-reader groups for help. If all you're really looking for is second opinions, I can give it a shot, (done it before with I think two or three fics,) but in that case you might want more than one person. And real editors, even if they're not spending much time seriously going over a story, have the experience to spot tons of stuff I wouldn't.
Aaaand finally remembered: JustAnotherTimeLord's been complimented a bunch all over fimfiction for being a really good editor, and though he's probably always busy I think he'd at least be able to recommend other editors.
Anyways, good luck!
