Huh. I seem to have a startling increase in blog posts recently. But anywho, why I'm writing this.
Over the years I've been here, I've come across a couple rants. Most of them about shipping. When I first started out, I was skeptical of their complaints. I mean, what's wrong about imagining the relationship that a guy and girl could have that isn't exactly canon. The first part that was corrected was the assumption of it being malexfemale. The second part was the assumption there would only be two people shipped together at a time. The third was taking out the relationship and replacing it with "how many ways can we have them make sex". I mean really. REALLY? How many times can you have 2(+) ponies fuck each other's brains out? The absolute DRIVEL that comes out of some peoples brains is astounding. And every week, like some demented ice cream shop, these stories/flavors get featured OVER. and OVER. and OVER again. Each one a carbon copy of the previous one. Like the fanfiction version of boy bands or something. You might dress them up differently, give them different dialogue, but it always come back to "Oh [INSERT MAIN 6 NAME HERE], lick my quivering lady parts. Oh yeah. Harder. Harder. Harder. Harder. Oh yeah. MMM. I love you [INSERT MAIN 6 NAME HERE]. Let's get married. Or fuck more. Usually fuck more." Some of you would argue that it's no different from the usual non-pony erotica that some people read. And you're right. It's just as annoying/disgusting. Why can't better stories be featured? Funny ones, thought provoking ones, sad ones. Anything but this garbage. Please. Anything but this. I'd like one week. Just one week where anything that has a sex tag isn't featured. Where good stories aren't overshadowed by stories that people only like because it's cheaper than buying porno. I know it sounds crazy, but please. I don't want more sex. I just don't. There's an... even more ungodly than an ungodly amount out there. Stop adding to the crap pile.
I've noticed this too yet not many people wanna consider different generes of writing anything that's on the same train as before keeps it going, I admit I've created a few clop stories myself but that's the Internet nothing's going to change much even if it did it'll change slightly to a point where probably one or two sex story would be featured a week, anyway that's my two cents in the matter

You can always turn the Mature filter on. That gives you a completely separate featured list with no Mature stories on it, meaning no clop.
2207909 Problem is, stories can be mature without sex. And they tend to be the best kind. But thank you for pointing that out.
The problem is; the mature tag can be filtered out, so can the romance tag, but the sex tag can't.
This makes me less potato than is required.

Agreed. It's disappointing to see writers who make well-written, thought provoking material that could really be considered literature go straight down the tubes because it isn't porn. Excellent blog post.
Consider this: clop-fics are only popular because there's a huge crowd that reads them. Without the massive amount of people that read them, you wouldn't ever see a clop-fic. You could argue that the problem you speak of is more of a people problem than it is a writer/site problem. My two cents has been inserted.
not every story that has the sex tag has sex in it. I do agree however that unless I filter mature out, the featured box is usually flooded with clop.....
truthfully I like romance as long as its not the of I fell in love with you within the first day on the first chapter.... some are worse, I fell in love in 10 seconds flat! *bleh*
romance needs to be built up.
I have actualy read some stories with clop that are very well done, and the clop only shows up every so often, and usually has a warning and a way to skip it.
2207909 yes it means no clop, but it also kills off a lot of other stories with mature tags. some people use the mature tag only so they are not limited in what they can talk about, topics characters use, or language characters use.
