So when I added the fourth chapter for Cheese Pie Cake, which I tagged with this blog, because it's awesome (seriously, check it out if you haven't), I got rather shocked at what happened.
About three minutes after I published it, I went to the main page, and low and behold:
It was in the feature box!
I... I don't even. I didn't take a screenshot, but I saw it clear as day.
However, it must have been in there for ten minutes tops, as another fics overtook its place. Obviously, I was saddened, and proceeded to wallow in self-pity.
But not really. I haven't reached the feature box before (that I'm aware of anyway), so this sort of caught me off-guard.
Does this technically count as my first feature box appearance though? Less than ten minutes? I get the feeling that when I add the next chapter, it'll jump up there again. But then again, I don't know. It'll be pretty cool if it does. That small appearance really was surprising. It was nice to see, even though it was only minor.
In other news, I've been browsing more gallery images for episodes (I do this surprisingly often), sometimes finding gems of images making me laugh my sides off, while others I generally look at for a cover image for a fic. See which one would fit well, you know what I mean?
Well today, I was browsing Pinkie Pride (again), and I came across this:
I don't know what to make of this. It just looks... well... creepy? I don't know.
But I do know, that this image should get a fic in of itself. I'm thinking something along the lines of:
Creepy Cheese is Creepy
Cheese Sandwich Stalks Rainbow Dash
Those are just a couple I came up with within thirty seconds right now. This picture just looks very... wrong to me. But someone, please, write some fic based on this picture. My sides can't contain more funny Cheese.

Seriously? Never? That sucks, because I would consider some of yours good for that box.
I'm guessing mine was probably just a 'just flunked in there' one, just over the border for feature material. That's only a guess, as I don't get the feature box sometimes. I once saw a story in there with about 40ish views and under 10 likes. It's very baffling sometimes. But of course, whenever I update my fics, someone else updates a fic right afterwards that easily topples mine. When I put the third chapter up, RainbowBob added a new chapter of Feeling Pinkie Mean soon after, so yeah. The one that took my spot on the feature box was a fic that hadn't been updated since October 2013. Just my luck, huh?
I can already see this Cheese fic:
'Cheese Sandwich pulls a facial muscle, ending up with a permanent creepy stalker face. Is it any mystery why the citizens of Ponyville try to run away from the stallion when all he wants to do is throw a 'party'?'
Creepy Cheese is Creepy! Someone better not ruined the best male character in the SHOW!

Though frankly, I do not know how that thing works, since I've heard that some lousy fics got in there...

Let me explain the feature box.

I have no idea how it works. Someone explained it to me in a thread once, with fancy mathematics and everything, and it's got something to do with number of likes and number of dislikes and blah blah, but the one thing that stuck was the one thing I already knew: dislikes matter. Especially that first dislike. After that, not quite as much. My highest-rated story is Mr. Lonelyheart, not because everybody loved it, but because nobody hated it. I'm not even sure why nobody hated it. The second it gets one dislike, it will drop, BANG, way down. It's a headscratcher.
It helps to have a long runner with reasonably frequent updates instead of a bunch of oneshots, and it also helps not to write about Equestria Girls, Flash Sentry, or Equestria Girls with Flash Sentry. If you're gonna push people's buttons on purpose, you've gotta put on your big girl pants and expect to get some flak.
It also would probably help if I finished this chapter and put in a few more explosions.
But I absolutely love it when writers I like, especially CheesePie writers, get into the box, so big congrats to both of you, and hope it's one of many!
