Pony Dreams
The Story so far
Pony Dreams is, at its heart, a story about discovery. Luna and Twilight discover and learn about a part of Equestria history that has been lost to the ravages of time and the deliberate actions of a select few. They also discover a deep bond of friendship and more along the way.
Fleur di Lis discovers just how far a pony is capable of going to realize an ideology.
Delusion discovers freedom for the first time in millennia.
It is also an origin story. The origins of Discord, the royal sisters, the elements and Equestria itself are all tied together by the webs of fate and consequence.
It takes place roughly in the summer between the end of Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3. If this is your first time reading the story, I suggest not reading below the linebreak as it will contain mild spoilers.
On a typical night in Canterlot, Princess Luna once again trudges toward a cold throne to preside over the obscenely boring Night Court. It is a duty she is glad to have entrusted to her, but the lack of petitioners is slowly driving her mad. The coffee and doughnuts aren’t helping.
While Celestia gets some much deserved sleep, Luna turns to her studies on the time she has lost since her banishment to liven up her night. When the dry history texts fail her, Luna turns to her last option, Dreamwalking magic. She sends her spell out over a sleeping Equestria and soon discovers that none other than Twilight Sparkle is dreaming about the Princess of the Night.
Luna quickly finds that Twilight’s dream is far more...saucy...than she was prepared for. She returns to her physical form to find the guards leading Fleur di Lis into Court after she was found wandering alone in the gardens afterhours. Luna sees no harm and gives Fleur back over to her guardian, Lord Fancypants. They two retire from the castle with no pony the wiser of their true purpose.
Luna returns to her Dreamwalking, determined to confront Twilight and have a proper conversation with the talented unicorn no matter what. Unfortunately, in the short time since the last dream she invaded, Twilight used a spell to cause lucid dreams and has already laid a trap to out Luna’s presence.
Meanwhile, an old enemy takes Celestia by surprise in her sleep. Delusion, once the winged terror of the night and now little more than a ghost, conquers Celestia’s mind and claims her body as his prize. Driven by an ancient grudge against the Princess, the malignant spirit immediately sets to work of neutralizing the only things that could hope to stand up to him: Princess Luna and the elements.
Regular ponies drop by dozens as Delusion makes his way to the throne room, his dream powers amplified by Celestia’s possessed form. Celestia struggles against Delusion but eventually, even she falls into ‘The Dreaming.’
Far from Canterlot, in the dark of the Everfree forest, Fancypants and Fleur di Lis launch the next stage of their plans and break into Zecora’s hut to filch a powerful potion. The zebra witchdoctor puts up a fight against Fleur but loses when Fancypants makes a timely and devastating entrance. She gives chase but the two unicorns vanish into the night with a wisp of magic.
At the Castle, Delusion reaches Luna in the throne room but fails to take her by surprise as well as he did her sister. Luna narrowly escapes into the garden maze, but even as she dodges pieces of the castle walls she hears a call from Twilight through her Dreamwalking. Seeking temporary shelter in a groundskeeper shed, Luna returns to the shared dream experience to find Twilight in a compromising position.
The sudden attack by Delusion and the upwelling of unfamiliar feelings is too much for Luna and she breaks down. Twilight moves to comfort the Princess but they are again interrupted by the appearance of a second Luna that claims to be the Element of Magic itself. The Element tells Luna and Twilight about Delusion’s invading spirit and claims that if they do not reunite Celestia to her body, she will be lost forever.
The two ponies make a decision and plunge into the unknown, charging in to save Princess, sister and Equestria from a force that neither of them understands.
Because that’s what heroines do.
And now you know the rest of the backstory.
