    Rebranding

Yeah, I was gone a while. Almost four years... last I checked. Stuff's happened, none of which I want to touch on right now due to the soreness still present. Just know that it involves family deaths and suffering both physical and emotional... not to mention the current political, biological, and sociological climate affecting the world, which has already left scars on me. I am very much lucky

Final... Day... · 9:17pm May 1st, 2014

May you find more peace in the next life, than you found in this one. I'm sorry I couldn't save you...

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

It is now officially the second day. Maxie Luck continues to not only be alive, but actually continues to be very healthy. The diet of Maize and water I have been feeing him/her has worked out very well, and he looks rather fat and content. Don't quite believe me? Have a look for yourselves:

He is eating well, chirping a lot, and seems to like me. Well, like me as far as a bird can like a human, I guess.

I still have no idea what species Maxie is, but from the black feathers starting to grow on him/her, Maxie might just be a crow or raven. Again, I have no real idea if this is the case. I'm no bird expert.

Here is hoping for another day. I'll keep you all posted on Maxie's progress. Until then, have a good day, everyone.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Howdy, Garnot here. I haven't done one of these in a few good days. The reason, as always, is matters happening in the real world. I just want to let everyone know that I am working on the next installmnet of the pillars, and I am working on several stories, as well as my work on the Royal Guards.

At any rate, the reason I'm writing this blog is to ask one very important question: anyone here know how to care for a baby bird?

See, while doing a bit of walking today, I found this little guy just lying around, his/her nest all but torn apart, and no real parents in sight. My guess is that whatever happened, took the parents away or something.

Now, seeing as there was no one around to care for him/her, I decided to take the little bird with me. Soon as I got home, I realized he/she was hungry, so I fed him some maize (powdered) and fashined for him/her a little nest. Now however, I find myself in a bit of a bind. I have no idea how to take care of a baby bird. Sure, I could just let nature take it's course with him/her, but that somehow feels rather cruel. The little bird just got dealt a bad hand in life, a matter he/she and I share at the moment.

so, again, anyone here knows how to care for a baby bird? And I do mean, PROPERLY care for him/her?

poor little guy/gal needs some help...

When springtime arrives, many people ask themselves that question. The right answer depends on many factors.

1) If the baby bird is not on the ground, leave it alone. As young birds learn to fly, they leave their nests to perch on adjoining branches and nearby bushes. Because it becomes nearly impossible for their parents to supply their enormous food needs, hunger motivates them as well. Their parents go from one baby to the next continuing to feed them through this critical period.

2) Are you sure this bird is a baby? Many sick or stunned adult birds are mistaken for baby birds. Just because it is spring is no guarantee the bird is immature.

3) There are certain species of birds that normally rear their babies on the ground (atricial birds). Killdeer, plovers, shore and sea birds, all duck-like and chicken-like birds are among these. They only need your assistance if they are found in highly inappropriate areas.

Growth Charts

Take it to the nearest animal shelter asap.:fluttershysad:

They'll know what to do.

Animal shelter. Duh. Otherwise, online research might help you a little. I'd suggest looking into what birds live in your area at the moment that might be nesting; it would narrow down what we're looking at significantly. As it is, you won't know what he/she is until some feathers grow in, assuming he/she lives that long.

I'd guess this is the result of some damn feline, or kids that couldn't keep their hands to themselves.

That aside, keep the little bastard warm. Notice the complete lack of feathers. Baby birds tend to freeze to death without a mother sitting on them. I'd recommend a towel you can fold over on him/her, and a lamp, or sommat like that.

Are you sure this bird is a baby?

PLEASE tell me you c/p'ed this from somewhere.... Or that you're blind. One of those. :facehoof:

all taken into account. Thanks

Yeah, I saw the site. Very helpful

2067856
Looking into it as I type this

Thanks for the info. Two of those aspects have been taken care of. As for Watcher's coment, yes, it was copied.

As a tidbit to public opinion, and in attempt to make things more manageable, most government agencies make an exception for wildlife rehabilitation centers. However, this is not because they are particularly humane. The US Fish & Wildlife Service requires that all non-endangered wild birds that cannot be made releasable be promptly killed.

Then you probably saw THAT^^^ as well.

2068077

I'd be happy (and slightly embarassed) to tell you that I did copy/paste it.

2068156

Alright, that makes much more sense. XD Next time, I think a link to the source would be more helpful, though I doubt this'll happen too often. Cheers.

Oven bake for 30 mins serve with salad and enjoy!

2068185

*raises glass of milk* (It's 7 AM)

Cheers

2068215 oops sorry wrong kind of care. I would keep feeding it every now and then and call an expert over.

2068201
Dude, that is seriously disgusting. With cleaned poultry, it'd be fine, but a whole bird? HELL NAW.

2068204
No it isn't! It's 7 PM. D:

Sure, I could just let nature take it's course with him/her, but that somehow feels rather cruel.

Yes, that would be cruel. If you can't figure out a way to take care of it, end it quickly for the little guy. Sometimes it's the best thing you can for him. Rather quick and painless than long and agony-filled.

I don't know all the details, but keep that in mind.

2068545
I think I'll him/her... Maxie. Neutral enough name, I think.

2068918
I would've named it frank, but to each their own.

2068918 better name him/her Lucky

2068918 better name him/her Lucky

2069204
Too masculine. I don't know the gender, hence why I picked a rather androginous name.

2069286
Lucky is a good option. I'll consider it. Maybe "Max Lucky"

2069315

Maybe "Max Lucky"

Why not go the Simpsons route with Max Power?

2068201
That is completely unhelpful! You haven't given us the tempurature.

2068259
The French had a delicacy, the Ortolan. It is illegal now, but the bird is about the size of a thumb. The bird was eaten whole.

I once killed an adult bird by running it over on my bicycle. That takes talent, yeah? I also walk into pet stores, see the birds on display, and immediately think, 'cat food.' Incidentally, I'm probably not the best person to ask about saving a bird's life.

I still have no idea what species Maxie is, but from the black feathers starting to grow on him/her, Maxie might just be a crow or raven.

You should tell The Descendant about this, if for no other reason than that he'd probably be delighted.

Well Garnot, I have to say you are doing a great job with what you have shown, Fluttershy would be proud! :yay::heart::yay::heart::yay:

What ended up happening?

2074026
I failed. That's what happened.

In all truth, I think Maxie just passed on because he might have been injured when I picked him/her up. I'll never know. The only clue I got was from the guys at the animal shelter. After I gave them a detailed description of what I needed to do, said "Let nature take its course."

I guess I should have known then that I could do nothing, but I still tried. I guess in the end, there really was nothing I could do to change the innevitable.

2068259 I'm a fucking robot I convert the entire damn thing to enertgon when I put it in my mouth
