It's getting there slowly, but it's getting there. I don't normally write Apple Bloom, so I'm using the mlp wikis and rewatching episodes to (attempt to) get her characterization right.

2061330 Ooh physics is fun and a headache. I was studying astrophysics back in the day.
As for AB she's a lot like Applejack, stubborn, hard headed, honest and natural born leader. She also has some qualities that Applejack doesn't like sense of adventure, free spirited and an innocence that makes her both cute and endearing.
Of course in CMC Maritime I'm kind of bending her traits because of the situation I'm putting her in.
