Good news! (Tagged story: There Goes the Neighborhood) · 1:39am Apr 27th, 2014
Earlier in the month, right after the new cover art was completed, I submitted There Goes the Neighborhood to EqD. About an hour ago, I got word that they've accepted it! It should be posted there before long.
Speaking of the new cover art—big thanks to IJAB—here it is for those who haven't seen it yet.
I'm over the moon about this because TGtN is not only my first story, but also the one that means the most to me.
This was actually my second time submitting it to them. The first time, the story still had some significant issues. In fact, the first couple of chapters have been heavily re-written since then to address them, as well as to bring it more closely in line with season 4 canon. I know their standards have shifted a bit since then and they're a little less stringent, but I feel like this is a vindication of my hard work to present the best story I could, from start to finish.
Anyway, I have no idea how a wider audience will respond to the story, assuming it gets much of a reaction at all. Compared to Roll for Initiative, it's a much longer story that doesn't have such an obvious hook, so I'd be an idiot to expect to get as many views out of this feature as I did last time. It's also a lot more ambitious, so I'm expecting more negative responses than RfI got.
And you know what? I'm okay with that. I love seeing my stories with absurdly high like ratios because it means I'm succeeding in entertaining people, and almost every downvote—I've had a few that came from trolls, as well as one jerk who got butthurt after I rejected his submission to The Royal Guard—represents a failure to do so. Still, as much as I hate the idea of anyone thinking they wasted their time reading one of my stories, I've recently come to accept that it's going to happen from time to time. All I can do is try to make every story the best it can be.
Anyway, enough droning on about things you probably don't care about. You'll be far more interested to know that the timing on this is really good because the next update is nearly ready. It's not a long chapter, but the content is super-important. I still need to get the end right, and I haven't checked it for consistency and started editing it yet, but that shouldn't take much time. There's another TRG site post scheduled for Thursday, so getting ready for that will take a considerable amount of my time, but I'm aiming to release it before the weekend.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and have an awesome night.
Congrates! It's my fave story in your catalog. Nice to know I was reading it before it was cool.
