I'd say personality is the best way to determine what species to have your characters!
Personality determines pony type.
Example: Egon would obviously be a unicorn due to them being (supposedly) the smarter of the three pony races.
Egon and Ray could probably fix something up to work for their pony bodies if they had the time.
I think Peter would make a good pegasus.
I'd say this
Egon and Ray are both pretty intellucual so Unicorns
Winston an Earth pony and Peter a Pegasus
Egon would definetly be a unicorn. Winston would probably be an earth pony, since he always seemed like the down to earth, sensible one. Venkman I would cast as a pegasus (Imagine him and Dash trading wisecracks lol). Ray is kind of a tossup, I'm not sure.
As for the gear, obviously the unicorns would use levitation, the pegasi and earth poies could use some kind of turret on their back, kind of like the battle sadles in Fallout:Equestria?
