For those who write, it's always good to have a circle of editors who are not yes men and who are willing to go H2H with you to make sure that your story is the best it could be. For me, that's the appropriately-named "Team Dumbass" (because their job is to tell me "You're a dumbass!" whenever I've made some serious gaffes.)
Once again, they did so with a vengeance. For two days now, the epilogue to "Princeps" has been done and they've taken their whacks at it. They're not happy with it. Honestly so. Yes, like any writer, I disagreed. Vehemently. Well, this morning, I took a look at it, and...as always, they're right. Characters in the last chapter are in an idiot fest. And the major plot point, while I still stand by it, could have much served better via fridge logic than spelling it outright. But you know you've really screwed the pooch when one of the most ardent members of TDA gives up on reading it halfway through.
Hey, I'm only human and willing to admit when I'm wrong. And access to a blog where I can say it in XBOX HUEG LETTERS.
So the end isn't going to be coming out this week. Instead, I'm going to split it in two and let it come to a much more natural conclusion than trying to finish it in six chapters (apparently, my self-mandated limit for Be Human story arcs to be no longer than six chapters has bitten me in the ass this time.)
So, to the guys at Team Dumbass, I have them to thank for saving me from epicly uckfupping what is probably one of the more critical stories in the canon (especially for Cadance and the impact it will have in Book II).
So, I'm going to get back to working on writing a much better end. Sorry about the delay.
What happened to warrant the characters to be holding the idiot ball?
Yeah... this is probably why I need editors. Also, I really need to read Be Human. I've read every other fic you've written in this universe and want to read this one, but dat word count is scary as knobs. I will get around to it. On that you have my word!

Honestly? A matter of having too much to do as of late (and thus not paying better attention to my writing), being somewhat exhausted from said amount (and thus being more recalcitrant) and a self-imposed six-chapter limit on BH story arcs (the previous draft of the finale of Princeps is long enough that I could split it into two or three more chapters.)
Honestly, at this point, considering the importance of the story to Cadance and the ramifications it will have on Book II, I'm seriously considering making Princeps its own story at this point.

Don't be scared: this story is a compilation of smaller stories happening around the AAG universe. Any given story there averages below 20,000 words.
Good to know there's at least one more sane author out there!
