Idea for a new story; fans of Patience, She Said might be interested · 7:16am Feb 24th, 2014

It is currently 10:46 PM in Vancouver and here I am, laying in bed, waiting for sleep. As usual, it eludes me so I turn to the old tested means of falling asleep: sheep counting, times-table recitings, and blogging ideas that I can't decide whether they are cohesive thoughts or subconscious dreams.

The basic idea can be summarized as an alternative to Patience, She Said in which immortality comes with Twilight's coronation. The scene I see is the massive dragon sharing a blanket with the Alicorn of magic in some distant and secluded cave. There is a fire before them, but the dragon continues to shiver. The Alicorn tries her best to wrap her warm feathery wings around her old friend but it is not enough; she is too small.

"It's getting late," she whispers. "Bedtime," she says, like she had said so many times before, so many years ago. And like so many times before, so many years ago, the dragon huffs and protests.

"I'm not tired," he says. Each syllable is a struggle. The princess can see those giant eyes fight to stay open. It is in vain. She knows it. He knows it.

"Just four more minutes?"

She concedes. "Four more minutes, Spike."

It's an idea, a concept, a skeleton. It needs fleshing out and I honestly have no idea whether I can write this correctly. Writing Patience, She Said may have been a mistake in that nothing else I write will ever be as moving or effective while readers now have some rather high expectations. Patience, She Said was my Silent Hill 2, my Half Life 2, my Final Fantasy 7, in that everything else I write will likely be compared to it. Here's hoping The Dragon Who Would Not Sleep (title pending) doesn't end up becoming a Silent Hill: Homecoming or FFXIII.

It is now a quarter past eleven and I can't sleep. Shall we write?

This kind of makes me think about spikes final hours with Twilight. Though I think the title should be something like " Four more minutes". It just seems like it.

As another author, I can completely sympathize with this plight.

Imagine how Notch feels about minecraft.

I'd read it. Hell, I'd even pay.:pinkiecrazy:

I've never had anything get more than ten likes, so I can't say my readers (assuming I actually have any) really have very high expectations from me. My best story had zero dislikes, though, so there's that.

I could probably manage to read it without comparing it to Patience, She Said. I mean, while the concepts are undoubtedly similar, if not nearly identical, they are two different stories from a talented author, and should be treated as such.

On a completely unrelated note, since I liked PSS so much I decided to comb through the rest of your stories and I must say that I am impressed. My personal favourite, aside from the aforementioned story, has to be Brief Hiatus. It's pretty well written and the way you tied the title in near the end was nearly masterful. Cool stuff, man.

Ah, this is a story I would very like to see. I think this is an idea I pitched to you, is it not? To see immortality from the eyes of the mortals, and how those who die may or may not pity those who cannot.

I don't believe we've ever corresponded, unless you're one of the voices keeping me up at night.

I like to think that all of the voices are prospective readers, otherwise they wouldn't be constantly yelling at me to actually finish one of my fics for once. They're basically my sole driving force for some fics.

No, unless you're one of those in my mind, and this whole experience is a dream in my possibly-comatose mind.
