For me, MLP has gradually downgraded from "obsession" to "passion." The trend seems to be continuing, narrowing it further into a "hobby." Strange to say, but that's probably a good thing. To spend more time interacting with humanity, reading literature, and engaged in art (I paint models) seems rather more productive than endlessly digesting art and gossip related to a fictional show.
But DAYUM, these last few episodes. First Pinkie's Pride, which was a fantastic ride from start to finish. And now simple ways, which really hit all the right notes for me.
-The humor was spot on. The awkward racism. Spike's priceless reaction at "that moment." And Rarity LOVES BEING COVERED IN MUD!
-The story was solid. It didn't try to cram too much into one episode (unlike Rainbow Falls), and it had a good, reasonable moral (unlike Bats, where the farmer was "wrong" for wanting to protect her livelihood).
-The new guy came off as real: a character with eccentricities who played a solid role. He wasn't Mr. Perfect, nor was he a cardboard cutout.
-Interplay between Rarity and Applejack is always a treat. Add role confusion and seldom-seen romance to the mix and we've got ourselves a winner. No other pair pulls off character and comedy so well.
Simple Ways easily enters my top five. It isn't as ambitious as some other episodes, but it was fun. Great jokes, great self-contained plot, and a generous dusting of more "adult" humor.
Also, the debate is settled. Applejack is the sexiest.
Nice Points! This episode was definitely something!
