The Dastardly Duo (also a quick check-in)

Recently, I realized that I needed to get some art for the less noble side of Set Sail. Our main villain has existed for years now as nothing more than words on a page and ideas in my head, but now we've got photographic evidence that he exists!

I made my account here exactly 10 years ago today. A whole decade of occasionally posting words about silly little talking horses and birds. I wish I had something planned but this kinda just snuck up on me. All I have is my thoughts, and I've only got one of those right now.

    I'm getting old.

Third time's the charm? I hope so. · 5:26am Jan 27th, 2014

Well, I am officially pissed at myself. My story, the one I just can't get out of my damned head, is really not going anywhere fast. I first started it back a few days before Thanksgiving, and pounded out two barebones 1000 plus or minus word chapters. They honestly sucked, and I am truly amazed that the story got likes and not dislikes on the first go round. I got about six of those meager chapters pounded out before I started looking back at my work, and I realized that that was not cutting it. I looked back and found places that I could add details to build the story in a more enjoyable manner. Eventually, I stopped working on the newest additional chapter to the pile of crap that was building up from my keyboard and unpublished the whole entire damn thing. I began with chapter one, slowly editing my way through until I had what I thought was a solid piece of literature. I got through four of them, at least doubling and in one case tripling the length of each chapter. Each time I had stuck fairly closely to the original story that had popped into my head around turkey day, and I finally felt like I was writing decent stuff by new years day.. Finally, I felt big and bad enough to start a chapter from scratch, and it came in at a whopping 5000 words. I felt like I was writing very well by that time, and a the few comments the story received seemed like people liked it. Before I decided to publish that fifth chapter, I went with a safer route and got a pre-reader. In my blind pride induced view of my story, I failed to see many of the flaws that it inherently still had. His message to me told me that there were quite a few flaws in the story line, world building, a lack thereof in the characters, and just grammatical errors that i missed. I think that this was one of my greater decisions as an author, because if i hadn't consulted some outside help, I would still be writing a mediocre story at best due to my blind love of my story. So now, I will be un-publishing the story AGAIN, and revising it AGAIN, and posting it one chapter at a time AGAIN. Only this time, i am rebuilding this story from the ground up. New scenes, new story line, but still the same main idea. I guess I have my work cut out for me huh? I'll be hard at work when i can, and hopefully i can get this story off the ground once more.

Thank you to anyone who is reading this and to anyone who read my story before. And a BIG THANK YOU to my pre-reader nucnik who helped me see my problems before i got too far ahead of myself. I hope to see you soon!
