Bradel Broadcasting – GhostOfHeraclitus's "Obiter Dicta" · 1:20am Dec 29th, 2013

I'm sure you all know GhostOfHeraclitus. He's, by all accounts, the Terry Pratchett of Ponyfic. If you're following me, you're probably also following him. And you've probably read some of his stories, like the critically acclaimed "Whom the Princesses Would Destroy..." and the wonderful holiday-themed "A Canterlot Carol". Which means you're probably familiar with the Equestrian Civil Service, who are now so much of a thing that they're making cameos in unaffiliated stories.

You may also be aware that the last time Ghost officially published something on Fimfiction was slightly over a year ago. Well, that's about to change.

Mares and gentlecolts, I give you "Obiter Dicta".

Now be aware, this is not a new story in the proper sense. Obiter Dicta is a collection of vignettes Ghost has been writing, many (but not all) of which tie into the Equestrian Civil Service. Some of them you may have already seen. Some of them have been closely-held secrets. All of them, I suspect you'll love.

[ETA: Actually, I think these are all new for you folks. The one story I know Ghost has previously mentioned on his blog, "Hoofprints", was removed from the collection because one of the Story Approvers who shall remain nameless demanded that all of Obiter Dicta be tagged [Human] if it stayed in. Suffice it to say, there's some unhappiness over this, especially since it seems to go against what the Fimfiction FAQ says about story tagging]

And on the subject of stories, I think I mentioned getting something of my own out to you fine folks. Well, it's taking a bit more time than I'd hoped—I'm fighting off grad school deadlines for another four days here, and then my schedule will improve a little as we move into the next academic quarter. (I think the EQD folks will be happy about this, too)

As of this writing, the first two chapters of the story have been written and only need some editing. The third is well outlined, but it's taking its time. It'll be here before George R.R. Martin's dragons return to Westeros, I promise. Cover art has been commissioned and I have to say I'm quite happy with the results so far. I do believe you will enjoy it.

Look for "Three Nights" sometime in the next two to three weeks, if all goes well.

Did you plan this? It's been 3 seconds since since OD went live.

... You beat Ghost to blogging about his own story.

<innocent look>

Would we do a thing like that?

You would.

two to three weeks

:raritydespair:

Awww. Thanks!

Also, you spelled the name of my story wrong. It's "Obiter Dicta." Not "Orbiter Dicta." This... this is probably going to be a problem, going forward, isn't it?

Is this "Nobody sees my picture for 2-3 weeks?" despair or "I have to finish in 2-3 weeks?" despair?

Ah, nobody ever accused me of being good with English.

Fixed.

1658529 It's "I don't get to read your story for two to three weeks" :derpytongue2:

No way I'm gonna let my part drag on for that long if I can help it. :trixieshiftleft:

I'd be nice and give you a peek at Ch.2...

...but I think it's still in the heavy pre-reading stages. It's at a point where I need to finish Ch.3 so my awesome pre-readerly folks can comment on the whole and how it's fitting together thematically. It's not clear whether Ch.2 is doing what it needs to do... but I'm the only one who knows what it needs to do at the moment, so...

Anyway, rambling... Hope to get back to writing soon!

The word you are looking for is "collusion."

1658535
Well. Latin, technically. :pinkiehappy:

I charge you with the crime[1] of being good at English!

[1] Actually more like an anti-crime

Would it be bad if I tell you I can't get the image of a bunch of pages circling high above the atmosphere at 8km/s whenever I hear the title?
