What the Hound Takes, the Penguin Restores · 9:09am Dec 15th, 2013
Thanks to a Linux tool called ddrescue, I succeeded in recovering all my important data from my failed hard drive, including all notes for Mismatching Wits. This is good news. (If anyone is interested in learning how I did it, I can post a blow-by-blow / tutorial in another entry.)
In other respects, life has been kicking me in the ankles and punching me in the heart lately, but it's not all one sided and things are looking up a bit. Thus, the creative process has time to reassert itself.
I am now close to finishing the next chapter of Mismatching Wits. I will not tempt fate again by estimating a date, but I can say that the extra time that it has been given to mellow has vastly improved it, in my opinion. I hope that the story will continue to meet with the approval of my readers.
Here are the last excerpts I expect to have to post:
“I remember when Iron and I first found this place,” said Snow. “I wanted to cast Ornithius's Ostentatious Oversight and I needed a cave swallow's feather...”
*****
He was entranced; his breath slowed and he slowly smiled in a grin that grew wider and wider as he counted the seconds...
*****
Pen had not thought it physically possible to do that to a puppy, no matter how much mustard you used for lubrication...
(Okay, I admit that one of these is a fake.)
You wanna talk about it?
Also, please do. I suffered a hard-drive issue myself in the past couple months. It was awful.
