From this occasion, my stages of writing a chapter:
1. Actual writing, (currently, Chapter 11 of A Kingdom Divided is on that stage)
2. Reading,
3. Consultations,
4. Some changes,
5. Leaving it for a month or so, (Chapters 5-10 are now there)
6. Reading it once more, (Chapter 4)
7. A "dafuq I wrote?" moment (every single time - some variations like "why I thought it's a good idea?" may occur),
8. Lots of changes, including those suggested by prereaders,
9. Final grammar checking,
10. Publication
Hey thanks for this!
I was wondering if it was normal to have a stock of chapters in the wing, or if I was just hoarding for no reason. Also, I knew my part was late in the development process, but dang, editing is step 9!? I so need to look into pre-readers for the new year.

Yeah, I usually prefer to have some more chapters written, in case of writer's block/some unexpected difficulties.
And editing is so late because the version of the chapter I give you is more or less the final one. If I gave you one of the earlier version and then, for example, write additional 1 or 2k words (first version of chapter 1 had 1.5k...), it'd have to be edited once more.

I'm thankful for that.
