I am getting so tired of stories where Discord used to be an alicorn, or a pony, and because he falls in love/gets defeated and has his chaos banished from him/other deus ex plot device, he turns back into that and takes back whatever name it was he used to have. Once you've got a pony named Stale Plot Device, you don't have Discord anymore, you've got Stale Plot Device angsting over the fact that he used to be Discord.
Look, if you don't like Discord's personality as it is and you don't like the way he looks and you don't like his role in Equestria and you don't like his connection to chaos... WHY ARE YOU USING HIM AS A MAIN CHARACTER?
I can forgive the folks who essentially are obviously trying to "kill" Discord without actually killing him by having the hero beat the crap out of him and defeat him, and then destroy or banish his Discordness, which turns out to be a separate entity that was possessing him and with it gone he turns into a completely different being, because what they're trying to do is kill Discord in a more complex way than literally killing him... but the ones who are trying to do a romance with Discord really frustrate me. Because, yeah, I am a total sucker for "Discord reforms and then falls in love with member of Mane 6/resumes ancient affair with Celestia" fics... but not when they can't be bothered to be about *Discord*, but are about someone's stallion OC who via a plot device Discord gets changed into.
"Discord used to be something completely different" can be done well if a, he does not choose to permanently revert to what he used to be, and b, there is an obvious connection between what he used to be and what he is now. But the ones where he decides to literally become his old self, so he's not a draconequus anymore and he doesn't have the same name and he is OOC enough to look like a totally different character... no, seriously, why are you writing this? I mean at least "Celestia used to be a human" stories don't involve Celestia turning back into a human, named Betty, and insisting that everyone call her Betty now, and by the way she's totally ashamed of controlling the sun and she's giving it up completely... do people do this to Chrysalis too? Chrysalis falls in love and turns out to be, not a flutterpony or a dark-colored alicorn but a totally ordinary pony, named Shining Smile or something else that seems totally absurd, and she doesn't take the form of other ponies and she doesn't feed on love and she doesn't care about other changelings anymore, or they're all dead, but it's all ok because she's in looooooove....
You know now I have to write a parody where Discord has to deal with Celestia turning into a human named Betty. :-)

Truly writer's Hell hath no fury like a character out of place.
Now that you have to write that parody, i have to be the first to read it and smile uncontrollably at the awkward dialogues between the two.
