Back! [+ GamesCom 2013 stuff] · 4:27pm Aug 26th, 2013
So, two days away, and not a single E-Mail. I usually get two to three mails per day, but now I didn't receive anything since the day I left. Coincidence?
Anyways, back from the one day of GamesCom I had. Word of advice: If you want to attend to a con with 300,000 people, don't think you'll be able to catch everything in a single day. I was lucky enough to take a glimpse of everything, but in the end it all came down to one thing: People.
EVERYWHERE.
The highlight of the event—in general, not for me—was the League of Legends area. Yes, area. LoL easily occupied the size of my street. It was some sort of live Let's Play. They had two huge booths, their own security, live broadcast, and commentators. There were so many people, whenever someone had a special kill or something, I could hear the shouts from three halls away. I absolutely hate LoL, but my friends love it to death, so I was on my own after that for a while.
Unfortunately, it was so overfilled that I couldn't get back in once I got out, so I couldn't make better pictures. Sorry for the shaky hands.
Booth 1:
Booth 2:
Because of being so full, they eventually even handed out water to the audience, since you were practically trapped in there. That came on top of free hats (!) of a guy named 'Teemo' or something. I dunno, I don't care about this game. But my friends wanted to make a picture of me with said hat.
Luckily, I was able to hide my face enough so you can't see everything (though I think my nose looks odd in here):
Also, coming soon, Guitar Hero with real guitars:
Brony-related—there actually was a stand selling MLP merch. It was the only stand on the entire convention to sell such stuff, but hey, at least it was something. I didn't buy anything, but it was still noteworthy, because these four shirts (plus a cup) was closest this con got to ponies:
The only MLP-related cosplay I saw was this:
The picture is incredibly shaky and I also only cought the side, because my group needed to move on. This was literally what she told me when I asked if she was cosplaying as some sort of Rainbow Dash:
"Yeah, I'm a dark, humanized, unicorn, zombie Dash. You like it?"
You guys make up your mind about this yourself.
Back to buying stuff, the Coke was horrendously overpriced. Like, no shit—3.30€ for half a liter! As a comparison, such a bottle costs 1.10€ in the super market; so they overpriced by 200%. Unfortunately, thirst got the better of me, so I had to buy it (started out with 60€ at the beginning of the weekend; now all is gone).
When it comes to merch, the only stuff I was interested in was TF2 merch:
Unfortunately, it was expensive as fuck as, so I kept it at a Pyro keychain and a can of Bonk—the latter which I will obviously drink while playing TF2.
And at the end of the day they gave away caffeine-free, sugar-free Coke. Needless to say, it tasted like shit, but fuck, it was free!
Overall, it was fun, but simply too much for a single day. And it was loud. And overcrowded. And expensive.
Now, being back, I'm honestly considering finally getting some of my ideas to paper.
