Okay I'm a little over 4000 words into The Alicorn Instinct, but I would also like to write this at some point.
This is a reply to a comment in another blog, but I wouldn't mind knowing what you all think of it as well.
Brief Description- In this story, Crystal/Chris's life was never controlled as Celestia's request was denied by her parents.
As the years went on from this, Celestia's view on the world began to change. The dream that she, Crystal and Luna had for a Utopia-Equestria soon began to appear naive.
The result of this eventually lead up to multiple changes within the original history of Equestria.
Luna was never banished because instead of Celestia becoming blinded by her subjects' praise, she instead chose to merely accept it and focus on helping her sister into her role as a Co-Ruler. This in turn allowed her to see the bitterness Luna began to put out, thus allowing her to reason and calm her down, as well as shoot down any plans for Eternal Night with straight logic of the planet not being able to function solely on the Moon alone.
Unfortunately although this was changed, Luna's hope for a peaceful Equestria was not. An argument happened between the two of them, thus leading up to Luna abandoning her positions as Princess and forming a group that battled against Celestia's Tyranny.
Celestia is known as a Tyrant to some and a strict but fair ruler to others.
Without going into it too much and spoiling a major part of the story, here is a scenario that some consider tyrannical whilst others see it as Justice.
A stallion kills someone's daughter/son and as such is stripped of his ability to ever create life VIA birth, as well as banned from ever adopting a foal. He is also sentenced to whatever further punishment the family of the dead daughter/son wishes to bestow upon him.
How Chris/Crystal comes into it will also be different from the original story. Celestia won't act like she did then. She will instead be calm, clever and cause him to choose a side without actually forcing him.
And that's all I'm saying for now. What do you think?

i like the idea
sounds like an interesting idea, and it does avoid some of the things I disliked about the original (Celestia being overly domineering and manipulative, Chris's life being ruined, etc,) but on the other hand the New Lunar Republic vs Solar Empire (or any variation within) idea got overplayed really quickly.
On the other hand, this isn't a normal SE vs NLR story, although I already have a feeling Luna is going to be really naive and annoying and really social-justicey. But I've been surprised before.

She doesn't want a Lunar Republic. All Luna want's is Celestia to try to achieve that dream they once shared.
And since the other story clearly shows that it is possible, Luna's "naivety" is justified here.

Interesting, I like that Celestia is not all cartonish villain and instead is more like a Shakespearian villain with her own emotions and is not one dimentional, and that Luna don't want to overthrown her, more like put her more in place because she clearly is going to far, and in the end she never and still love her deeply as a sister and vice versa.
I only have to things to question, if the instability occur do to their conflict does that mean that Discord could have wake up sooner? Also if Luna never go to the moon those that mean that she is older? Doesn't have that old we speech, and is in essence more mature?
And last, if Nightmare never occur those that mean that she and Celestia still are the avatars of the elements?
P.S: Did you are planning to put some elements of the comics as well?

Discord is dead. Celestia killed him.
The Elements of Harmony were never found because Celestia lost the traits that represented her side of Harmony, thus never allowing her to find or use them. The reason the elements were originally sought out was to contain Discord, not kill him.
In this fic Celestia is not as merciful to tyrants like him. She does not sugercoat or smother her ponies from the real world. Instead she lets them experience it in order to grow and learn more then what their Cutie Marks define them as.

Crystal/Chris is the protagonist...and potential Antagonist. It depends on which way you look at it.
What side he chooses will define his character. But this world is honestly so complicated that the concept of Good and Evil are considered childish.
Celestia is...well a tyrant to some and not to others.

It will focus on Chris but will switch to watch over other characters as well. It will be written in 3rd person
