Somedays, I sit, looking at the stars. I muse and wonder. I meditate and reflect. And I find the miracle in a new day of life. Especially since I swallowed so much glass the day before.

STREAM IS OVER! Watch the recording here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3WdPD7LojQ

I'm also taking other requests for games, especially indie games and freesource. Because I'm cheap. Leave me a comment if you wanna see anything!

Cheers, mates.

By popular demand and request...

Right. So, it's like a rite of passage or something.

All live streamers have to do this, huh?

Granted, I'm new to this stupid game, and... I'm also new to the actual game. I've never ever before bought into the Slender thing, I honestly find it kind of dumb, and what's worse is how many people find that guy actually scary.

There are many things that I find scary. For example, giant praying mantises:

Clowns:

And murderous psychopath rapists:

But not very often when I think of 'scary' do I immediately jump into a faceless guy in a business suit.

I work in the business world. I see faceless guys in suits every day. I have been a faceless guy in a suit myself on few occasions.

I have never found Slender scary, smart, or even remotely creative.

But everyone wants me to play the stupid indie game anyway, because apparently I will be scared by it.

I highly doubt so.

It will be a blind play-through, meaning, I have never played it, seen a walkthrough, or do I actually know how to play. I tried it for about 1 minute already, just sort of tromping around and getting lost in the forest, just to make sure it works, but no more than that.

So today, at an unspecified time this Evening ( 5 - 6 pm Central ) I will be playing... Slender. That would be around 5 AM in the morning my time, so this ought to go well.

Around that time head on to: http://www.twitch.tv/kitsunerisu to watch it live and maybe even chat to me. Once it's done, I'll put up a link to the recording, too. I'll also update the heading of this blog post to denote when I'm about to start streaming, so everyone can head on over to the twitch page beforehand and get read and mingle.

Let's have fun!

This is a stupid game.

Slenderman's hardly the first faceless "monster" in a suit, either - not by a long shot. If you've ever read The Phantom Tollbooth (1961), then you'll find... the Terrible Trivium. (Skip to about 1:08:53 to see his scene.)

Yup... while I'm fairly sure this was parallel evolution, so to speak, Slenderman's pretty much him minus the bowler hat. Considering your apparent attitude towards this upcoming game session, it seems oddly fitting...

(And I doubt that he's the first guy with the faceless-suit motif, either.)

Oh, I love this movie. I love love love this movie.

But there's a difference. This guy is in your face, Hm? He was... there. Taunting. Talking. Slenderman is the sort of 'creepy stalker' type of monster. I find that quite different in the execution.

This movie is absolutely one of my favourites. The doldrums scared me more than the Trivium, though, honestly.

I have a thing for slime....

And no, the faceless suit motive surely has been around. I don't like the idea of it being the way this KIND of monster is.

It's just about execution.

Well, we'll see just how... effective it is.

I don't expect to be frightened at all.

Okay, I just watched the recording of the stream, and... :rainbowlaugh: I can safely say that you are not only a steely-nerved paragon of unflinching courage*, but also friggin' hilarious. I might actually have to start using "limey custard" as an insult, and Steve Irwin's encounter with Slendercroc was comedy gold, to name a couple of highlights.

But confidentially speaking, after the experience... how... effective would you say that execution was? Say, on a scale of one to ten. I mean, three years off one's life expectancy has got to count for something, right?

*"That's mah story, and Ah'm stickin' to it."

Thanks very much! Glad that it entertained. ^_^

If you're talking about the execution of the game... it's quite alright. I won't lie about it. While playing it was quite... shocking, but genuinely, that's all it was.

It's about the setup and the carry-out of what is basically jump scares in a row. Whenever you enter the toilet or a nasty part of the forest, you're just waiting for the orchestral crash and the DUNNNNN. Once that DUNNNNN comes you aren't really scared anymore because that guy isn't really chasing you or anything. He's just sort of standing there.

And when he catches you, it's actually less frightening and more of a relief because you can sit back and go 'ah well. Better luck next time!'. It's not a frightening game. It's a scary game.

On a scale of 1 to 10, as an effective game, I'd say... 5. I've played scarier games before (the first few resident evils come to mind) as well as more frightening games (Amnesia, Undying, etc.) but this one, for an indie game, was actually quite good for what it is.

After a while, though, it just isn't scary anymore. I tried it again AFTER the stream, on the next day, and since I already worked out the mechanics, it stopped being anything but a challenge-style game. It's actually more of a time-management game than anything.

Diner Dash.

Slenderman style.

Yes.

And I maintain that Slenderman isn't scary as a creature. I actually calmed down while playing during the points where I stare at him straight on. It was mostly the unwillingness to lose the game that spurred me on more.

Speaking of scary games, though, once Machine for Pigs comes out, I'm totally going to do a blind play of that one. The Amnesia: Dark Descent sequel.

And lulz will be had.
