HamGravy

Author of the Tarnished Silver series. I write clopfics with too many emotions in them. My work is very niche, but my readers are a wonderfully enthusiastic bunch, so I must be doing something right?

    Suddenly!

    ...anyone still here?

Hi, everybody. I doubt anyone else has even noticed, nor would I expect them to, but ten years ago today, I uploaded a weird little clop story called Tarnished Silver to this site.

Tarnished Silver: The Audiobook (Plus: foreign language editions, and a teaser for something new!)

FACT: In our busy modern world of smartphones and red pandas, few of us have time to sit down and read books, let alone morally questionable horse fanfiction. Thus we have seen the meteoric rise of the audiobook, which allows people to take in a story while doing something else, like flying a jet between two narrow canyons under heavy enemy fire, or jogging. But until now, there's been no

    "Baby Steps"

Those two words in yesterday's episode managed to completely redefine the episode, and possibly the character of Fluttershy, for me. I think they might be the two most important words she's ever spoken. Here's why.

A new story is coming tomorrow!

Why yes, I am a shameless whore , thank you for noticing.

Tomorrow afternoon (that's Friday CST, people of the world) the internet will be forced to endure another entry in the Tarnished Silver canon. It's a one-shot, but I'm actually quite pleased with it, which is something I don't usually say about my own writing.

Hard drive explosions + Hamgravy is an irresponsible sack of butts = new chapter delayed until next week. · 6:16am May 17th, 2013

You know, I quite honestly love my readers to pieces.

Perhaps it's silly that I should develop so much fondness for people who follow my weird overdramatic pony rape fic, but there it is. I see so much enthusiasm from so many of you, and it’s greatly encouraging.

Which is why I always feel so guilty when I don’t get new chapters in on time. I hate keeping people waiting, especially this close to the end. I managed to write Tarnished Silver with hardly any delays for most of its life, but as I reach the end, I find myself taking more time with each chapter, and that combined with a demanding day job seems to have caused some schedule slip here and there. Which is something I always find frustrating as hell. But you know what’s really frustrating? Coming home to find that your hard drive failed and you lost the drafts of the conclusion to your story. :facehoof:

Slightly heartbreaking, really.

I’m not saying it isn’t my fault. Of course it’s my fault. Yes, I didn’t ask for my hard drive to implode and take a bunch of drafts to Computer Hell with it, but I could have backed those drafts up. I’d kept meaning to, but, well, we all mean to do things we never get around to, don’t we? If I had, I wouldn’t have spent most of Thursday frantically trying to recreate Chapter 28. But after spending several hours trying to slap something together that sort of resembled the actual draft I had written so I could update on time, I stepped back and thought, "No. Fuck that."

28 is the second to last chapter, and that means a rush job simply won’t cut it. So I’m going to take my time and give myself a week to write it like I usually do. Which means that, yes, there will be no update this week. I'm really sorry to anyone I've disappointed. :ajsleepy:

Look for chapter 28 on Thursday, May 23rd, and the grand finale on May 31st. Assuming all goes according to plan (Ha!)

I know it's a pain in the ass to deal with this all the time, but (much to my amazement) you all keep coming back week after week, and for that you have my gratitude.

Thanks!

I swear, if I ever do a weekly serial like this again (quite likely!) I won't publish the first chapter until I've completely written up to chapter six or something. Build up a buffer zone for this sort of thing.

I love you (I hope that's not creepy or anything...) I'm not saying the longer the better, because I'm finally almost caught up, and the story just keeps getting better and better, but part of me wants to prolong the end, 'cause I'm really gonna be sad when its over. :raritydespair:

Also, I know that exact feel. The same thing happened to me around Easter. Lost a computer and my chapters, but I took it much...lazier :twilightsheepish: You're just awesome for putting out such amazing stuff in such short a time!

I'll forgive you If Celestia gets her ass kicked :v :V

To paraphrase Shigeru Miyamoto - A delayed fic is eventually good, but a rushed fic is forever bad.

Take your time, just make it a memorable, and real conclusion. Don't just slap somthing together, you've spent all this time building up to this conclusion. Your story dosen't deserve a horrible slapped sogether ending. Let it come to you when it comes to you.

Take all the time you need Ham! Rather wait a week then get a lesser chapter because it was rushed

Oh, and i hope you can at least recover your stuff from that HDD, I know what a pain losing everything can be and I'm glad to see you didn't fall in a mood where you felt "fuck it all"

Hard Drive Explosion? I'm guessing that's not the name of your Radiohead cover band.

Awww, man that sucks. I had a similar issue with my Laptop just a few weeks back, turned it on one morning, fan made a demonic whirring noise. So I ordered a new one and replaced it, after putting everything back together, it didn't work. I even tried to disassemble it and reassemble it three times. In the end I just bought a new Laptop, a more powerful one. It's great being wealthy.:moustache:

I hate keeping people waiting, especially this close to the end.

:rainbowwild:

Ham! Use Google Drive or Sugarsync or Dropbox! You can effortlessly back-up to the interwebs cloud every save of your underage pony rape epic.
Captain hindsight to the rescue!
Also birthdays to you as well.

I can wait just a few more days, even if it will hurt :applecry: :ajsleepy:

But it will be an excellent little thing to find at the very start of summer vacation! :raritystarry:

I love you (I hope that's not creepy or anything...)

Not at all! As long as you don't, like, begin stalking me and then show up at my house in your underwear or something. :pinkiecrazy: Without PMing me about it first so I can make sure to be home.

Oh man, sage words indeed. That really helps put things in perspective, thanks! I hadn't heard of the original quote by Shiggy before, but I looked it up just now. He is an admirable man but he'd be more admirable if he made another damn Starfox game already.

I really appreciate everyone's patience and encouragement! Thanks again.

you would rather delay it then have it likely be bad, I respect that. take your time

Does that means the series will come full circle and end a full year after it first started?

Just as planned... maybe.

Yep! I started writing the original Tarnished Silver on 5/28, but I finished it on 5/31, so if there aren't any more delays, Tarnished Silver the series will end exactly one year after Tarnished Silver the fanfic! :pinkiegasp:

I re-read it the other day, and was kind of shocked at how much my writing has improved since then. (parts of it are a little embarrassing, honestly.) What a difference a year can make.
