HamGravy

Author of the Tarnished Silver series. I write clopfics with too many emotions in them. My work is very niche, but my readers are a wonderfully enthusiastic bunch, so I must be doing something right?

    10 Years Later

    Suddenly!

    ...anyone still here?

Hi, everybody. I doubt anyone else has even noticed, nor would I expect them to, but ten years ago today, I uploaded a weird little clop story called Tarnished Silver to this site.

Tarnished Silver: The Audiobook (Plus: foreign language editions, and a teaser for something new!)

FACT: In our busy modern world of smartphones and red pandas, few of us have time to sit down and read books, let alone morally questionable horse fanfiction. Thus we have seen the meteoric rise of the audiobook, which allows people to take in a story while doing something else, like flying a jet between two narrow canyons under heavy enemy fire, or jogging. But until now, there's been no

    "Baby Steps"

Those two words in yesterday's episode managed to completely redefine the episode, and possibly the character of Fluttershy, for me. I think they might be the two most important words she's ever spoken. Here's why.

A new story is coming tomorrow!

Why yes, I am a shameless whore , thank you for noticing.

Tomorrow afternoon (that's Friday CST, people of the world) the internet will be forced to endure another entry in the Tarnished Silver canon. It's a one-shot, but I'm actually quite pleased with it, which is something I don't usually say about my own writing.

This one was actually a late Christmas gift for a very dear friend who asked for a TS side-story as a present. Rather than keep it all to herself, she's asked me to share it with the Fimfic crowd as well. Generosity! Rarity would be proud. The good Rarity, not the one I write about.

So what's this one about? Welp, as usual, I took a few sentences from one chapter (the last chapter of A Silver Sky) and extrapolated a whole story out of the implications they make. What fun! Ten points to whoever can guess which passage it is! Oh yeah, there are points now. They can't be redeemed for anything and have no practical value, like Xbox Achievements, so they are sure to be incredibly popular.

All joking aside, this story was a bit personal for me, so I hope you all enjoy it. See you tomorrow!

This image is not a clue.

I squeaked like a small child when I saw this on my feed.

What have you done to me, Mr. Gravy.

Oh this should be fun :twilightsheepish:

I'll take a guess at the passage.

I could answer her truthfully. I could tell her how even though I’ve gotten better, I honestly am not sure what qualifies as “well,” or if I’m anywhere near it. I could tell her how hard it can be to play the part of Ponyville’s conquering hero, when all I want to do sometimes is throw it all away again and turn control of my life over to someone else. I could tell her how hard it can be to resist that urge, and to stay focused on who I want to be.

Ten points to whoever can guess which passage it is!

oh oh this looks like fun let me play :pinkiehappy:

For one part I´ll like to say it may be this one

But going home and going back to normal are two different things. Suddenly, I was the curiosity, the pony who everyone kept bombarding with questions. Usually they were tasteful ones that avoided making any mention of the Gallery, but I could tell everyone wanted to ask.
I had returned home, just to become Ponyville’s favorite sideshow.
The only place I felt comfortable was my hill. Spike and I still met there every evening. It was far enough away from the center of town that we were usually left alone.
For a long time, he was the only one I could talk to about the Gallery. I think back on those days, on how much of a burden I placed on him. I spent so many nights crying into his shoulder, recounting the nightmare I'd endured.
But he never asked me to stop. He never tried to get someone else to listen to me. He never did anything but support me.

that seems something like one-shotish material, plus it could be a very good read
for another one this one

“Work which, to my frustration, still continues,” Luna said, shaking her head. “Of the forty members who survived that night, six still remain free.”

could make an interesting one shot, but I dont see how that kind of story could be personal to anyone, so I dont think its that one

Finally (limiting myself to 3 guesses :twilightblush:) there is this one

Is this what justice looks like? Twilight asked herself.
“Suffering begets suffering,” Luna said, looking away from Twilight with a far-off look on her face. “In that, at least, there is balance.”

my bits go for the first one :rainbowdetermined2:

im not going to sleep until i read this!:pinkiehappy:

God bless you.

I'm kinda hoping that it will either involve the Dream family or will deal with Cheerilee's reaction when she realized how blind she was and how much of her class had been victims right under her nose while she did NOTHING.

You know how to make me happy, don't you?
:raritystarry:

I bet on a story about the hunt for remaining Circle's members. Because that is what I hope it is. :unsuresweetie:

Honestly, I always thought Cheerilee was kind of an idiot. I mean, don't get me wrong, heart in the right place, great with kids, very sweet. She's very emotionally intelligent, which is why she could make that heartfelt speech at Silver's funeral and all.

But in terms of practical intelligence? She's all, "HEY CLASS LET'S ALL STOP LEARNING SO WE CAN WATCH APPLE BLOOM SHOW OFF THIS DUMB HOOP LOOP THINGIE SHE DOES NOW."

Or, "I AM EASILY FOOLED BY AN UNCONSCIOUS ELDERLY PONY ON STRINGS."

Or, "THE SCHOOL PAPER IS VIOLATING EVERYONE'S PRIVACY? I SEE NO ISSUE HERE. OH WAIT, THIS EDITORIAL BY THREE CHILDREN SAYS THAT IT'S WRONG. BETTER FIRE DIAMOND TIARA AND PROMOTE THE KID WHO TOOK ALL THE POTENTIALLY LAWSUIT-CAUSING PHOTOS." Yeah, it doesn't surprise me that she'd miss a sign of distress or two.

Seriously, Cheerilee, your talent is growing flowers. Your cutie mark speech is fooling no one.

So no one has guessed correctly yet, but several of you have touched on ideas I have filed away for FUTURE stories. Just not this one. :scootangel:

Anyway, I have to work, but I'll do finishing touches and post the thing in the afternoon!

I'm gonna guess it's about the relationship of Silver Spoon and Babs Seed (that is, the quote in question are the lines that refer to it). Alternatively, it might deal with the issue of Twist writing a book about something Princess Luna tries to keep a secret, though I'M not quite sure how that would work out with the personal part. :trixieshiftleft:

Great points about Cheerilee but this last bit just killed me. :rainbowlaugh:

Quite frankly, this perspective just makes the fallout she'd be enduring from her own insecurity and pissed off parents sound even MORE interesting.
