    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

So, I'm pretty sure I've made it known that I live in Massachusetts in the past. I love it. I love New England. I love the climate. I love the turn of the seasons. I love the culture. And I love, I love Boston, our capital city. I don't live there, but I try to visit as often as possible. My favorite spot in the entire world is atop the Prudential center, a restaurant there from which you can look out across the city, into Massachusetts, or out to sea, at the Atlantic Ocean.

For those of you who don't live in America and may not be aware of what happened, the Boston Marathon was today. It's fairly well-known across the world, with runners from everywhere taking part in it. Earlier today at work, I made a joke wondering if a Bostonian will actually win it this year or if it'll be a Kenyan again. Little racist of me, I know. I apologize for that now, and I don't mean anything by it. But the African runners to tend to do very well. All the power to them. There are charity runners, people running for their own reasons, etc. It's a great event. Heck, if it's a nice enough today then sometimes it becomes the first cook-out of the year. At least I remember a cook-out once.

...

Two bombs went off near the finish line today. Additional ones were found, I just heard up to five. As of this blog post, three people are confirmed dead, and more than a hundred injured, with some of them in critical condition. One of the dead may have been an eight-year-old.

Now, for the record, no one I know was injured or killed. No one I know was at the Marathon - but my brother does live in Boston, and my grandparents, visiting from Ireland, were planning on seeing the Marathon today. I had the fright of my life today, and I managed to get lucky...but I know that a lot of people didn't get lucky.

I know the numbers of dead and injured don't really compare, I know that I managed to get lucky and that no one I know was hurt...but I love Boston. Today has just become my 9/11, my December 7th.

...suffice to say that this is something of a mood killer. Don't expect an update to anything for a few days, though I'll try and power one out anyway, but I'll give a 50-50 chance right now.

Dude, no worries. Glad the people you know are safe. No worries on any updates.

Oh, and on a related note? If any of you see any member of the Westboro Baptist Church, please punch them in the face for me. Margie Phelps tweeted that she was happy that Boston was bombed since Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage and said that the WBC will picket the funerals of the victims.

Which, I will remind you, one of them was an eight-year-old child.

So, yeah, Fuck the WBC. Fuck them sideways.

What she said is just as barbaric as the bombings, how can they even consider themselves children of God?:facehoof:

1011400
This might help put a grin on your face: you know what recently set up shop on the other side of the street from WBC? An LGBT support center.

1011420
I did hear about that, and it did, in fact, bring a smile to my face when I heard it.

Dash by all means take the time and get your head and heart around this first. Things hitting so close to home are far more important than providing us reading material. Besides we're not going anywhere.

I hope they find who did this and break his kneecaps. :twilightangry2: And break his arms.

My heart goes out to everyone who was or had loved ones who were injured or died in the blast. My prayers will be with you.

As for the WBC? No comment. They aren't worth the energy it takes to type out a comment.

I'm glad that your family is okay, DoubleDash. Take all the time you need.
1011400
Ah, yes, WBC, one of the few reasons I regret about my planned move to Canada.
My advice is don't pay attention to them while you recover. They're just trying to push peoples' (directly Americans) buttons like how they did during the Newtown after-match.

Man, don't even worry about updating stuff right now. You take some time and get your bearings back. We understand. This is a horrible tragedy and just awful, for someone to do something like this.

1011400 I'd rather brain them with a ball bat, but that's just me...

Assholes. :flutterrage:

1011400

Isn't that the church that picketed the soldier's funeral and shouted out insults at it? Yeah give them three punches one for RDD and 2 from me for both those times. On the blog note you know how this community is take all the time you need don't post or write anything until your good and ready.

1011400 As a good and loving Christian, I pray that the WBC and its members are wiped off the face of God's green Earth in a series of oddly precise mention strikes that cause surprisingly little collateral damage. But I know that it won't happen, because unlike the WBC's god of hate, intolerance, and evil my God is the God of Love and has infinite kindness, compassion, and forgiveness to even the most undeserving of us, and a sincere hope that we will chose to better ourselves. Such is his love and goodness that while I feel horrible about the tragedy that occurred today, I know that the victims are in a better place where goodness and gentle compassion endure forever.

The members of the WBCare still total dicks however.

I am so fucking angry right now.

Fuck.

1011400 I was going to comment something about my feels about this tragic event and my hopes for justice and such...then I read your comment.

Well I'm not going to put any effort into typing a comment about the WBC, I don't want to, and they don't deserve the energy. Instead I'm just going to go to bed before I punch a hole in my wall and rip someone's head off.

What is your source saying that five unexploded bombs found? The most I've ever heard in the news is two. Official statements are now saying that there weren't any (which I'm not sure I believe). The only thing I found online saying that there were five other bombs found is an English version of "The Voice of Russia."

I know the feeling; I've an uncle in Boston. It's a beautiful city, and this is awful. Still, there's a bright side.
The other bombs didn't go off.
I think for that, we can all be thankful.

It was on CNN at the time, but it seems to have been recanted. I was just going off of what I had heard at the time, not making any assertions of my own.
